Traditional king cake is the most overrated food in New Orleans.

But the Elvis from the butcher is amazing.

What about Navarre's Famous King Cakes in Springfield? Are they worth the drive from BR if you just like plain cinnamon?

There's a place in Picayune, MS called Paul's Pastry Shop that's supposed to make good king cakes, but I've never tried one. We went by there once while driving from Hattiesburg to New Orleans, but they were closed that day.

Anybody ever try a king cake from them?

La Petite Sophie in River Ridge (a new spot)
Tartine
Gracious
Cajun Pecan House

Not a fan of the overfilled kind oozing stuff that’s the consistency of cheap canned pie filling

Maurice’s uses fresh cream, whipped to perfection. Aka, goat’s cream.

I was pleasantly surprised with Bywater Bakery’s last season and it was only their first year open.

ETA: Here is their chantilly king cake pictured with Parleaux’s cardamom coconut porter (photo taken today from their Facebook page)

Good to know. I read about it recently. Frank Brigtsen has recommended it, also.

I would like to order a praline cream cheese king cake from somewhere. Anybody know who would ship one to me in Jackson?

If you live around Jackson, I recommend Broad Street Bakery for their almond cream cheese cake.
