I love jambalaya, Cajun or Creole, but I got to go with paella, more complex, more flavors and I love that socarrat.

This needs to be a cooking challenge.

Cajun jambalaya with white beans will always be a comfort food for me, although I really enjoy paella.

I’ve had it twice, and it was good, except the clams. I just don’t care for them. I’ll take jambalaya over paella.

I've only had paella from Paella NOLA twice, but it was great. It was as good as some jambalaya, but not the as good as the best.

I’ve wanted to try Lola’s in NOLA, they’re famous for personal sized paellas.

The beauty of jambalaya is the cooking process and the amount of people that it will economically feed. The actual end result of jambalaya is not some memorable culinary sensation. Certainly not on par with a paella you'll find in Valencia or any village up on the Iberian Peninsula.

I don’t know about that, take someone born and raised in the northeast or certain parts of Europe and drop them off in south Louisiana and let them be a part of the process from the beginning till it’s time to eat.

Not a huge fan of rice. You can make Jambo with limited rice. Paella, not so much.

I don't think either one is great but they're both good

I'm always surprised at how few people can actually make a good jambalaya though

I'd say 80% of the ones I've tried are mediocre but it's great when it's done right

I’ve never had real paella, but even so, I choose paella. I like jambalaya just fine, but it is my least favorite iconic Cajun dish. My mom didn’t make jambalaya when I was growing up, so I don’t have any nostalgic ties to it.

Biryani, otoh, I love.

Jam all day.

I think my Jambalaya is pretty good. But since Powerman said most people can’t make it well, I’m thinking I just like mediocre Jambalaya.
Because I’m not that good of a cook. Haha!

Sidebar, has anyone tried putting saffron in jambalaya?

A challenge would be interesting. Maybe someone could invite the Paella NOLA crew to a Tiger tailgate for a showdown.

Might even get them to do it just for the publicity of it.

Saffron tips the scale to paella for me. Nothing wrong with jambalaya though it's not my favorite dish from Louisiana.

Traditional Paella is a field dish (Any of or individually - chicken, rabbit, snails and duck occasionally) and not originated as a seafood dish.
