so those prices seem fair to you considering the place youre eating at?

this isnt a white cloth restaurant with exceptional service.

The prices are high because for years there was a 2 hr
wait most every weekend night.

It's good food. The atmosphere is par for the neighborhood IMO.

There are a shitton of places in Nola with those same prices but much shittier food.

I think you're reaching here.

A good meal that includes two sides plus a salad in NO for $20-30 is a good deal. You could pay a lot more for worse.

Fried chicken is overrated and extremely overpriced compared to places like Elizabeth's.

IMO, it used to be good and somewhat worth it. It's now obnoxious and there are better options. And there is absolutely no way that the food is worth the wait, crowd and funk (and I don't mean the good kind of funk) is worth it. But knock yourselves out.

ETA: Just took a look at the posted menu. Yes, the food really is overpriced for what it is.

The prices are WAY high. They are fine dining prices in a casual as hell place. However, seeing as how damn long the line of people is waiting to eat there anyway, their prices probably aren't high enough.

The alligator cheesecake is so good, and the atmosphere is deliciously New Orleans-Dive.

If you owned a restaurant, you'd probably raise the prices if people were waiting hours to order your food... It's the smart thing to do

There are many who disagree with you since the place is packed at all hours. I get amused when I see people criticize one restaurant for being overpriced, but then they laud other places who have similar high prices. As an example, people criticize the price of fried chicken at Jacue Imos's, but they happily pay even higher prices for BBQ from glorified shacks. As with all things, the value of meals are relative. It depends on the expectations of the diners. And Jacque Imo's has a better track record of meeting customer expectations than most restaurants as evidenced by its continued success.

I've always said there's no accounting for taste.

Example of a glorified shack serving BBQ at higher relative price than Jacque Imo's. Not saying they don't exist, but I'm not aware of them.

We eat out at least two or three times a week. I can go to Domenica, Martinique Bistro, Coquette, Dominique's, Maurepas Foods . . . even Lilette, Clancy's, etc., and find entrees within a couple of bucks of that menu.

Seriously, etouffee and shrimp creole for $25? Really? $20 for fried chicken?

If the food were something approaching spectacular turns of an old dish, I suppose it could be arguable. But c'mon, not that place.

The fact that people line up to go eat there can be accounted for in ways that are too lengthy to discuss here. shite, I saw people lined up last night to go to Coop's for chrissake. fricking Coop's.

If people enjoy the food at Jacque Imo's enough to deal with the inconvenience, discomfort, value or lack thereof, and frequent surly staff, then that's fine. Good for them.

-had a reservation for 8 and was seated shortly after. Sat at a nice table in the room after the kitchen, nobody on top of us although the driveman could see WHY people would say that at the smaller table

-gater cheesecake x 2 - more quiche-LIKE. Lived up to the hype

-fried rabbit app - good taste but pretty small for $9

-duck sausage andouille gumbo - huge bowl filled with alot of good MEAT chunks. Could eat that everyday

-carpetbagger steak - alittle underwhelmed by this. The hollandaise sauce was good but the meat was just ok

-drivebro said the RACK of lamb was good

-Drivedad had one of the pancrusted fish which was tasty

-drivegirl won the night with the stuffed CATfish. Good thing she eats like a bird, this was off the chawts

-no desert

-we had a great time, no roaches or rats, the watermelon mojito was good but the driveman started throwing back reg mojitos which were better in HIS opinion. If you realize you're going out to eat and don't nitpick every dollar you spend or how close the tables are and just LIVE ALITTLE then you'll enjoy this place

-4 stars out of 5

Couldn't agree more. Jacque-imo's is solid.
