I don't care for that particular IPA either. Was it from a can? If so, what was the date on the can? Most IPAs go downhill quick after a month or 6 weeks. I generally don't buy it if it's older than 1 month or if it doesn't have a date on the can.I had an IPA in a can at a pizza place a few days ago that was good at 1 month old. Went to see a band after that and got the same IPA at the venue and it was horrible. After I choked it down I looked at the date and it was 3 months old.

Yeah, last I heard of Ballast Point, they sold out for $1B or so...haven't seen a beer from them in ages.
Yeah, those dudes made off like bandits. BP sold again to some conglomerate at a significant loss. I doubt we'll see it in Louisiana again, however, it is a fantastic west coast IPA. Epitome of the style, IMO. Of course, when we had it, i got spoiled and stopped buying it because it was readily available...

I still think IPAs are a joke that went too far. Like a group was playing a trick on a friend “hey we are going to tell Billy how good this rotten orange juice is just to see if he agrees to fit in”
My first ever IPA, i would agree with you. It was a rogue dead guy ale. I hated it. Fast forward several years and it was my favorite style. I was constantly brewing them at home. Fast forward again to today, and i'm on easy street with german and czech lagers as my go to.

I think the quality of beer is geting much better overall, with bad breweries closing shop more frequently. However, every now and then i'll buy a local ipa and it's just garbage. At this day and age, i don't understand how you let an oxidized IPA go to market. Maybe it's the 4 pack i got, but it was bad (A recent 7th tap IPA).

Well that’s a West Coast-style and hence more hoppy and bite. Maybe you’d prefer a NE style hazy?

I’ve mostly gotten over the great IPA experimenting phase but still enjoy quite often Ghost, Jucifer, whatever DIPA Parish has out like Super Nova, Atticus, etc, and maybe a couple more. I got tired of trying overpriced ones only to not like them and either force drink or keep in the beer fridge for months taking up space. Also most places that sell singles have very old ones, 8+ months old.

Man y'all can send all those DIPAs to me, no shame
I don't drink them like I used to, but it's scary how easy a NE hazy goes down on a lazy sports-watching afternoon

Never liked them. Might as well take strip of a flannel shirt, some oak tree bark and some hay. Blend it up and mix with water.

You sound like you haven't had IPA's in a long time. The IBU war is over.

most breweries only do hazy
And yet another war has begun.
Unfortunately, the American IPA IBU war was going on exactly in my early adulthood as I had the funds and wherewithal to try all kinds of beers. Most of the non-lager beer menu has been out of consideration for me for almost 20 years because of hops, haze, fruit, etc. That's usually 70% of the beer menu, even if there are hundreds of bottles and taps in the US.
There are plenty of stouts and porters to experiment with on the dark side, as my 700+ unique beers can attest to.

I miss those days, to be honest. New beers were getting shipped here locally, and once/week i'd load up on beers i never tried before. Now, i feel like i've tried them all, and the ones i haven't, there is a reason.

IPA's take up an exorbitant amount of tap room. I find the best breweries, at least in Louisiana, offer variation of differing styles.

That's cold weather beer!

I like IPAs fine. My problem with IPAs is the amount of shelf space they are given. A typical grocery store in my area has a huge section for Bud, Coors, etc., as they always did. Then there is a huge section with 50 different IPAs. Then there is a very small section with an extremely limited selection of porters, stouts, and all other beers.
20 years ago, you would have had the huge section for Bud, Coors, etc. and the rest was a good mix of all other beers, including a few IPAs.

I don’t know if Voodoo Ranch is any style of IPA other than piss poor effort and nasty.
I enjoy IPAs, but if that’s the only hoppy option where I’m at, then I’ll gladly just order a Yeungling or Modelo.

Yellow Rose is really good and several non IPA drinkers have been converted to it by me.

Comparing this shitty malt liquor to actual IPA is like comparing chuck roast to wagyu

Still love a nicely crafted IPA, but my go-to is NZ Style Pilsners.

I don't know either but in Texas it's the 3 tier distributorship that screws everything. I'm in conneticut right now and can't find any freshies at the stores either so I guess they have shitty distributors here too

This is what everyone drank in Houston 2014-2017. It was good but worst hangovers ever.
