With holidays coming around everyone is asking “what do you want for Christmas?”

I’m just a dad that doesn’t really have much to ask for cause I already in my mind have it all.

That being said I enjoy cooking/baking/grilling.

What are some items that ya’ll have in your kitchen that you love to use or make things 100xs easier or things you couldn’t do without?

High quality knives
Several pairs of tongs
Wooden spoons

Seems like an afterthought but cooking would be very difficult without these items.

For grilling, a chimney starter and the little weber lighter cubes.

One I would add is a Vacuum Sealer machine. We have a Food Saver. By most of our meats at Costco and vacuum seal stuff all the time.

I left my microplane at a friend’s house and have been miserable since
I didn’t even think I used it that much, but apparently I do. I rarely see her so I broke and got a new one this week.

In addition to the people saying high quality knives, I've gotten pretty fond of having a good quality knife sharpener (Chef's Choice in my case).

I use my Mk4 all the time. Reheat in microwave - check with Mk4. Bake in oven - check with Mk4. Even breads. Chicken breasts on stove - check with Mk4. Grill - Mk4.

It is so fast and easy, I use it all the time.

I had cheaped out initially and got a ThermoPop, which worked pretty well. Bought the Mk4 when it was on sale for $69. Liked it so much, I then bought one for each of my kids. I wonder if the new Thermapen ONE is even that much better.

I now have an excuse for eating bacon more regularly - I take a paper towel and soak up the bacon grease, store it in a plastic bag, and use it to light my charcoal chimney. One select-a-size paper towel soaked in bacon grease is all it takes. Bacon grease seems to have an infinite storage time, so I always have these fire starters on hand.

Looks like the ONE gives you 1 second readings vs. 2-3 seconds with Mk4. With that being said, ill probably buy one once they go on sale

I made an end grain cutting board. It just kept soaking up mineral oil when I treated it. I finally stopped applying the mineral oil even though it was still soaking some up. That cutting board is a pleasure to use and has held up for a decade, still looks almost new, and I don’t think I have retreated it. Vastly superior to edge grain cutting boards I have.

Good call. Covid was the worst there for a while where you couldn’t get gloves. I don’t care about “the virus”- I just want to debone a chicken, people!
