Hiroshi is an unusual restaurant for unusual clientele.

Located in Los Altos, California, the newly opened Japanese restaurant accommodates only eight people per night and has no menus, no windows, and one table. Dinner costs at minimum $395 a head, but it averages between $500 and $600 with beverages and tax.

Hiroshi Kimura, the chef and owner, left his restaurant in Hawaii and moved to Silicon Valley in 2016 to launch a concept that would appeal to the deep-pocketed tech elite. Hiroshi hosts three to five dinners a week and is booked solid when a convention comes to town.

We toured the restaurant to see why it's becoming a favorite in Silicon Valley.

There were no hours posted on the door. A sign read "Open by appointment only."

The general manager, Kevin Biggerstaff, ushered me inside. Dim lighting cast a yellowish hue on the dining area, which was nearly swallowed whole by a single wooden table.

It was made from an 800-year-old Japanese keyaki tree. Biggerstaff told me it took 10 men and a small crane to lift the table into the restaurant. New walls were constructed around it.

Are there similar restaurants in New Orleans that cater to the ultra-rich, where you get to have 1:1 interaction with the chef?

Part of me says, "I've spent way too much money on food and beer before, so if the experience is unique enough to be worth $600/I'm a Silicon Valley billionaire, I could see myself doing it. The other part of me says "frick that guy and his table, for $600, that steak better be served on Mila Kunis' naked body.

Gold flecks are not bad on chicken and pork, but I don't care for them on steak.

If I am making millions, or even a billion-plus, I'd give it a go.

I would prefer The Catbird Seat in Nashville for a bit over $100.00.

The Catbird Seat

And there are several very good chefs tables in NO for substantially less since there are substantially less uber rich than Silicon Valley.

But that cost isn't too far out of line considering the $600 you get to includes wine. French Laundry runs about that.

Tell the chef that steak tastes like low grade dog food. Look you can even see the marks where the jockey was hitting him.

That's a steak? I thought that was a McDonald's hashbrown.

And did they really serve "seared" string cheese with that "steak".

The amount of stupid that enters that restaurant must be astounding.

Saison in San Fran is like $1000 a person I believe. Not sure how many people it seats per evening.

I would eat there if I had Los Altos Money. Hell I'd probably try it if I ever visited the area now.

Do people mocking the steak understand that it is Robata seared freshly imported A5 Wagyu tenderloin? I would destroy it.

I had the exact same thought. I was just afraid to post it and get shot down.
