Those that think this restaurant, Punjabi Dhaba Indian, is a poor representative of Indian food should read the reviews. People who like such food drive from New Orleans and Baton Rouge to eat there. There were three tables of Indians in there when I was.
It is not this huge buffet. It had maybe 8 dishes and they were all freshly cooked.
IMHO Indian food is just not good. The folks I was with love it.
(the background Indian music is annoying to me too.)

You admit that you've tried Indian food before and didn't like it. So you reconfirmed your dislike of that cuisine. How can you then judge the quality of an Indian restaurant?

Indian food is fantastic and one of my top favorite cuisines.

Bhaingan Bharta (Eggplant must be cooked down and not in chunks is my favorite way)

It's like some of y'all have never eaten actual Mexican or Italian food besides what you get at your typical American restaurant.
As for Indian, butter chicken is my go-to recommendation for first timers. My first ever experience with it was super spicy lamb vindaloo, and it almost turned me off of the whole genre of food.
Another thing to keep in mind is that India is a country of over a billion people crammed in to what is essentially the same land area as what we have east of the Mississippi. Food is going to vary a lot by region, and you need to find restaurants that specialize in certain regional specialties. Yeah, tikka masala is going to be similar every where because it's essentially British, but other items will vary greatly. Northern vs southern vs eastern vs western. They all have their own styles.

They were allowed to open midway through whatever phase we are in now. Don't tell John Bel.

Yup, try butter chicken or chicken biryani. Naan is a must, and if you like mango try a mango lassi drink.

indian rice w/ pine nuts
saag paneer
butter chicken
chicken tiki masala
boneless chicken biryani
papadan to use as a chip to scoop the saag
hot buttered naan
this is some of the best food you'll ever put in your mouth.

Most American Indian food is Punjabi (northern India)

You need to try to cook an Indian recipe yourself before you write off an entire cuisine.
Maybe doing it yourself, you can identify if there are any specific spices that you don't like. Then you know to avoid dishes that have that spice.

This may be the dumbest thing that's been posted on this board. Congratulations.
