I lived 23 years in India. I spend every Friday night eating biryani and watching Indian movies. I go every other year to India to get all my spices. I can make everything from poori, dosa, biryani, mutton, sambar, raasam ...

The only place close to authentic indian food is Swagat in Louisiana.

Houston has the best Indian food around LA. Biryani pot on Hillcroft is as authentic as it can get

Back in the 90s Bombay palace near the summit in Houston was the best place in town.

Pretty new to Indian food in New Orleans area but Shayan in Metairie is pretty damn good and a new place just opened called Mantra that is pretty good also. Got the same thing at both. Chicken Tikka Marsala w/ basmati rice and Garlic Naan ***I know, rookie order, I need some advice on what to try next***

Went to HS with a kid who’s family opened the first Indian restaurant in New Orleans (Metairie) in 1982. The Keswani’s were from Mhow, India and settled in NO because Mr. Har was a naval architect at Avondale Shipyards. During the oil bust of the early 80’s, he lost his job and ventured into the restaurant industry opening the Taj Mahal, followed by Keswani’s (uptown square), Shalimar (French Qtr) and currently Nirvana (Magazine Street). If the food wasn’t legit, locals and frequent diners would not have supported the Keswani’s for the last 40 years.

FWIW, I travel the entire State and indigo and India’s Restaurant in Shreveport have solid food. Claiming Louisiana doesn’t have good Indian food is nonsense and proves your lack of credibility.

Then older I get, the stronger the flavor profile I crave. It’s my favorite takeout with Thai as a close second . Saang Paneer and lamb rogan josh are regulars for me . With an icy cold Kingfisher

Also the Indian temple here in Nashville gives out free lunch on Sundays and it's always a different family making the dishes. Some fantastic stuff.

Saag anything is good. It's a really versatile medium to add whatever. Cheese, chick peas, chicken, lamb. You name it; it's all delicious.
