I've never tried one.

I watched a show on CNN last night that said they were better than beef.
I find that hard to believe.

Not better than beef. Not even close. But they’re not as bad as many on this thread will make them out to be.

Other than zero cholesterol I don't see that they are a lot healthier than beef.

I wonder what they use for flavoring?

They're horribly unhealthy.

I haven't had meat in 30 years so they are good to me, better than previous veggie burger brands. But they processed, lab created things that are high in a lot of things that are bad for you like sodium and polyunsaturated fats.

Impossibly bad.

Cows are much better at turning plant matter into beef than humans are.

Least surprising thing I’ve learned on TD this week. Soy runs deep

It's pretty obvious that our overlords are going to be pushing vegetarianism/veganism pretty hard, so I'm not surprised someone on CNN is saying they're more delicious than beef. They're definitely not as good, but they're not bad.

They were better when I formed them into thin patties and fried them until they were crispy. Also... Toppings, toppings, and more toppings.

Tastes like cheap ground beef. Like beef that has gone through the grinder and extra time, maybe with bread crumbs mixed in.

Honestly, I believe most people wouldnt pick them off for anything other than cheap burger meat if you served it to them at a bbq.

I cooked a couple of them on a whim a few months ago after seeing them in the meat case. If, for some reason, I couldn’t eat beef, they would be a serviceable replacement. I seasoned them just as I would a regular beef burger (s&p and a couple dashes of wooster). The texture wasn’t terrible, but it was lacking flavor. Not much of a comparison when compared to a real beef patty, but it will fill a hole as a stand-alone sandwich. Maybe like 3/10.

How is it even possible for a substitute item to be "better" than the original item?

Taste wise or health wise? As far as taste, I can’t imagine that they would be anywhere close to beef, but I will never know. As far as health, they’re horrible for you.

I personally think those and Beyond are gross and chemical tasting.

If I’m eating a meatless sandwich, I’m not trying to mimic meat. I’d rather a black bean burger with salsa and guacamole… or a veggie patty that tastes like actual veggies… etc.

Exactly.
Especially since they are not healthy.

I have cut back on red meat big time and eat a lot of beyond meat burgers. Best way to describe the taste is like “diet meat” texture is right, but the taste is slightly off.

Overall, pretty damn good. Definitely not healthy by any means.

It doesn’t taste like beef… it taste like it’s own thing. If you go in thinking it will taste exactly like beef, you will be disappointed
