Hard to live in Hammond and either not eat at a chain, or simply always eat at home

Tacos and Beer is pretty much our go to spot

ETA: not sure why I'm getting hate in the voting, but there is nothing good in Hammond

Cena ? Hand made pasta cooked by a high school kid..You guys know they haven't had a chef in years, right ?

Tope La ? get real

113? I'm not a 19 year old insta hottie

Tommys Pizza ? they literally just finished power washing the inside of that place, so maybe I'll try there again and not get the sweet sauce

China Wok? honeslty, no hate here..Easily get this every few months

That other pizza place on Thomas that is obviously a money laundering scheme...

BlackendBrew ? To be fair, i have not made the drive to the new site..Sucks that its not simply walkable anymore, they got us through Covid..

DineGnar ? hit or miss on this one, food is usually great but the beers have been lacking lately..I reallllly hate that they brought back that strawberry nonsense..

Honestly, Hammond has simply made us grill more..The marinaded fajitas from the little grocery over by the OMV place is nice..

Yea, i think a crowded lively restaurant is fun. If i want a nicer or quieter evening i can go to a different or more expensive spot.

you are paying just as much if not more for inferior product. some of that shite is literally sysco mass produced frozen food fried or microwaved for your enjoyment.

it has nothing to do with calories or being a snob. its about not wanting to pay a premium for obvious garbage.

You just moved to an area with so many great mom and pops

I agree with Sixth and Barrone on this one though. If I am traveling through in a hurry and have no time to research then a chain having consistency is great.

There are some mom & pop restaurants that are total garbage, but chain restaurants are not better in general than a good local place.

Well, you eat where you like and I'll eat where I like. I prefer supporting local businesses and not some national chain restaurant with the same menu choices in every outlet in the country.

you can go to a restaurant in Baton Rouge and have the same food as one in Los Angeles.

Why would anyone want this?

Hating on chain restaurants became the cool thing to do. Admitting that a meal at Applebees is enjoyable allegedly makes you unrefined swine.

Let’s don’t and say we did.

For what it costs to dine out today I’m careful where I want to spend my money. If I’m in town I’m going to my tried and true favorites and none are chains.

And none are Supper Club either.

I'll occasionally eat at a chain if someone else is picking but I highly prefer local spots

The last time I went to a chain was a couple months ago I went to Salt Grass because my folks had a gift certificate they didn't want to expire on them.

coming up on 20 years here, we eat out all the time and never at a chain (except Waffle House). There’s plenty of good local options just like there are most everywhere

I've been in some cities with very few non chain options

But once you get above 100K population you'll usually have enough decent non chain options

I still occasionally eat at chains if I'm working on the road but hopefully I won't be doing that again for a while

It's not snobbery, it's just that I get more for my money at a M&P. They never mind adjusting a little to make it more to your liking, it's not prefab, for stuff like salads, that's critical.

I went into George's on George O'neil and ordered a Reuben.

"No, you don't want that, I sliced it today and it's very fatty, I'm sending it back tomorrow". Thanks for the help.

Fast food used to be cheaper than ready made, not anymore.

The best thing I get is always being part of helping a small business survive.

I'm not doubting you, but I'd like you to name some of the places you go to, all the time, in Hammond that are not chains

81st downvote. I cast it with a big smile on my face based on the Subway reference alone. Subway is for scumbags.

Knowing very little about Hammond and that I can be totally wrong in my thinking here, I would think (per capita) Hammond wouldn't be any more lacking in local restaurants than BR, no?

Local places are great…until they open restaurants they have no business opening and charge prices like they are experts. Look at this fricking ‘sushi’ menu.

Have they ever been to high end sushi restaurant? None of that makes sense.
