Houston isn't really a meca for Texas BBQ. Pretty disappointing but there are a few good places in bellaire.

Gatlins is the best in the city.

decent Texas BBQ

Goode Company BBQ
5109 Kirby

Central Market, 3815 Westheimer.. If you're in the area and you like good food, it's worth the stop in.

If you want a really good burger or awesome hot dog and milk shake, Beck's Prime has a location in the Galleria area at 2615 Augusta and also on Kirby at 2902 Kirby..

Many other places have a better burger. Petrol Station is a good burger as is Shepherd Park Draughthouse but neither are in the Galleria though.

Two votes for El Tiempo...might have to give that a shot.

Haven't read the whole thread, but another vote for El Tiempo

Haven't tried either of those so I will need to check them out. My favorite burger in Houston remains Christian's Tailgate, but the closest one to the Galleria is in the Heights.

Local Foods, Niko Niko's, Zabak's, El Tiempo if you want TexMex, Goode Company Seafood, Coppa, Sammy's Wild Game Grill, Cafe TH, Les Givral, Barnaby's Cafe or Lankford's for a burger, Relish Fine Foods, Central Market has good sandwiches and salads.

this.

Local Foods has some of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. Torchys Tacos has the best tacos I've ever had. I'm super addicted to that place especially now since they've opened one up in rice village.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE America's!

LINK

+1 on Café Annie being great for dinner.

Beck's Prime is a really good hamburger, but you can get a good hamburger at home. Try to eat somewhere that has the type of food that you can't get here.

Or lupes or escalantes or anywhere. Seriously, you can go to any Mexican place in Houston and it will be multiples better than anything you can get outside of Texas.

Lets not go overboard here. I have had some crappy Mexican food in Houston.

Authentic and very good. Despite the awful name, 100% Taquito has some pretty good tacos as well.

My deal with Torchys is mostly the parking.....I don't feel like fighting that cluster frick on Shepherd for expensive tacos that are hit and miss.

Can't believe it took that long to get an Ice House shoutout. I'll throw my hat in for El Tiempo and tacos/ice house combo. Also, to the clown comment about good Mexican food everywhere in Houston better than anything outside of Texas, what? You ever been here?

ETA: I think Torchy's is overrated. Its good for what it is it just feels "brunchified" to me. And the parking, frick the parking.

We were there this past weekend. We really dug El Real and The Hay Merchant.

Although the Hay Merchant chapped my arse. We were there for happy hour on Sunday. We had two rounds and were going for a third. I couldn't get a bartender to notice me, so I held out a $20 bill for 5-10 minutes and every bartender still ignored me. The place wasn't that busy, we weren't drunk and I left cash tips for our first two rounds and our appetizer. I got pissed and we just walked to El Real.

The only thing I EVER get from there (and I go a lot to the Kirby location) is either a turkey or chopped brisket sandwich on the jalapeno bread with potato salad. Delicious. What do you, and apparently other people on this board, not like about it? Haven't been out to Gatlin's yet. But I do want to try it, I've heard great things.

And FYL if you are trying to turn left off of Shepherd. Hopefully the Rice Village one has better parking. One is going up in the Heights as well. I need one in EaDo and I'd be set.
