Nothing could be further from the truth in my experience. Unless it was a special. The crap on the menu I'd pass on.

C’est Bon in Mermantau is pretty close to your 100 mile limit but it’s a hole in the wall with the best etouffee ever and their boiled crabs/crawfish I’d put up against anyone.

sitting outside at Riverfront in Abbeville is a good time

We ended up here after a lot of places were closed for Monday, though definitely not hole in the wall.

Everything was better than expected. Spinach and artichoke dip... Made with fresh spinach and actual hearts, for the first time I actually ate it rather than just watch the gf eat it.

Crab cakes... Very healthy amounts of butter and lemon with lump crab meat.

Tunatini... How the hell do they give you a half a pound of sashimi grade tuna for 10 bucks. Light sesame soy dressing over micro greens with red onion and cucumbers.

Blue cheese wedge... I've never had one with the addition of balsamic, and I'll be adding it from now on.

Seafood platter, everything very well done.. Except the oysters. They were small and overcooked.

Tasso and cabbage... I have no idea who smokes their tasso, but it had more smoke than anything I've ever made. Not my cup of tea, but well done.

Seafood potatoes: twice baked potato with shrimp, very good.

Overall, I'm thankful to have a new place worth making a drive to for a good meal.

Atchafalaya Cafe in Morgan City has terrific seafood and usually has a band on either Thursday or Friday nites.

Hilltop Inn, Maurapas. About as good and hole in the wall as you can get.

Glad you enjoyed it, IMO the town of Abbeville is a hole in the wall, so that's what I was thinking.
