Here Are Some Restaurant Food Pics

Here are some highlights from various New Orleans restaurants at which we dined recently.
Arnaud's- A few pics. I enjoy a good old New Orleans classic
meal from time to time. The shrimp remoulade is among one of my favorites. The oysters Arnaud were as great as they always are except the oyster rock on it wasn't very hot. Galatoire's oysters rock are better, but this was still delicious.
Peche-Always great!
Crawfish coquettes
I had a shrimp dish which was jumbo shrimp with citru and sticky rice. The rice was a cake and the sauce was wonderful. The purple cabbage slaw with citrus was great, too. If it's on the menu when you're there, I highly recommend this dish.
Blueberry gelato was outstanding. I'd had their blueberry ice cream before, so when the waitress said this was available, we jumped on it.
G.W.Fins-A first for some of us. Very good. I loved the lobster dumplings. They were so delicate, but so tasty.
The bbq shrimp with goat cheese grits were excellent.
There was a dish of soft shell crab and soft shell crawfish with crawfish and crab maque choux. Excellent, but a ton of food.
This was the Samoa with coconut sorbet, coconut shortbread, chocolate shell and caramel drizzle. We didn't make much of a dent because we also had the salty malty ice cream pie, but they were both delicious!
Gabrielle-I have been wanting to go here since it reopened. I've made the Oysters Gabie app several times from the recipe in the Great Chefs Louisiana New Garde cookbook and that topping is delicious. I couldn't decide between the bbq shrimp pie and the oysters Gabie, so I got both rather than an entree. I liked the oysters Gabie, but it's not nearly as good as the recipe in the cookbook turns out. That recipe has much more fresh artichoke, pancetta and garlic flavor, so I was a little disappointed, but still enjoyed it.
The bbq shrimp pie was delicious. I could love without the cinnamon or allspice type seasonings, but I would order it again in a heartbeat.
Other apps were the quail gumbo and the crispy smoked boudin with housemade andouille. I tasted the latter and it was spot on.
Other highlights were the slow roasted duck which was a ton of food, and the whole speckled trout. Excellent.
The peppermint patty dessert was wonderful! We had another dessert, but I can't remember what it was.
I would go back to Gabrielle. It's in an odd location, but it's a nice space and sort of quirky in a way. Feels very local.
We went to Shaya also, but I've already posted about it before and we had pretty much the same things. It was just as good as it was when Alon was there with very little difference. They changed some of the items you can get 3 or 5 of, but that's about it, as far as I could tell.
Italian Barrel-
I really enjoy this restaurant. I like the atmosphere and the food is so very good. Here are a few dishes.
The irresistible bruschetta.
The small insalata di mare.
The Italia served hot was fresh tomatoes, basil and imported "bufala" mozzarella. Rich and divine.
Slow roasted veal meatballs with spaghetti. So tender and tasty.
Penne in spicy tomato sauce with Italian sausage. The Italian sausage flavor is outstanding.
Jumbo lump in a creamy vodka sauce with penne. Excellent.
This was our favorite of the desserts ordered, though they were all very good. It's limoncello truffle. Lemon sorbet with meringue and I've forgotten what else. Refreshingly delicious.
I did not proof this.
Hope you enjoy the pictures. It was definitely a PITA.

I was all set to get the scalibut until I saw the soft shell crawfish on the menu. It's been a long time since I've had one, so I had to order the dish. I had to share some of my dish because there was so much food, but not that soft shell crawfish! I got to taste the scalibut and it was a nice dish also.

If you order the duck, share it or plan to take it home for a few future meals like we did.

We had an older guy as a waiter who was SO LOUD. I think he was hard of hearing. It became comical and in addition to that, he tried to be a comic which was a failure, but that made it all funnier. He'd leave the table and we'd all just crack up.
At one point, one of the people at the table was reaching into the bread bag to break off some bread and the loud waiter swooped in, grabbed the bag, put it up on a little shelf next to our table and said he'd bring more bread. It was bizarre. When he left, we died laughing again and just grabbed the bread and continued on. He did bring the fresh bread, though I'm sure he wondered by the bag was back on the table. I asked if he'd worked there before Katrina. He said no and that he'd been Arnaud's for 18 years. Interesting.
Eventually, in the middle of the meal, he disappeared and another older waiter took his place. It was sort of crazy, but very colorful.

quote:Well, Peche left the tails on those jumbo shrimp and I had deal with them. I wasn't leaving that good tender chunk of meat behind! The dish would have looked just as pretty without the tails on them. You can hardly see them in the pic anyway!

I didn't post every picture of every dish. We had quite a few fish dishes along the way.

I would love a thread weekly where we share food pics. I’ve been eating some unreal food with work travel.

Fabulous Gris Gris.. The crabmeat and vodka sauce with penne has my creative juices flowing..
I'm curious how the soft shell crawfish were?
