1. OK: onion burger
2. IL: Italian beef
3. GA: wet lemon pepper wings
4. LA: gumbo
5. MD: crab cakes
6. CA: California burrito
7. CO: Colorado verde chille
8. MA: Clam chowda

*ETA: to clarify. People form each state voted to nominate their state's champion. All 50 got ratings from S-F and then all the S-tiers squared off in a point-based vote by the 3 judges.

If the Ohio food is Skyline Chili, I 100% agree with the F rating

1 and 3 there are sort of a joke.

And I do actually sort of like those Oklahoma onion burger things. Just to say that's the single best food associated with a particular state is a bit much.

I'm not even sure what the frick Georgia "wet lemon pepper wings are." I just feel safe in saying there's no way they are the #3 state associated food there is.

I like Josh's videos. Haven't watched this one yet.

I'm guessing he made each of the foods himself, so the prep would have a lot to do with how good it is.

I live in GA and have no idea what wet lemon pepper wings are. Guess I need to watch. Gott put work off another 34 minutes.

ETA: I love a smash burger and sometimes do mine with the onion smashed on the second side. Didn't know it was an Oklahoma thing. T thought it was a me thing.

It's an Atlanta thing. Like really, really big in ATL.

I've never had one but I don't think I'd be a big fan.

One of the judges complained the Chicago hot dog didn't make it (deep dish pizza was apparently 3rd).

Arkansas got an S-tier for chocolate covered biscuits and all the judges were ashamed in the final vote

I like the Chicago beef sandwiches a lot, but they are another thing that don't strike me as being that special. It's sort of a glorified roast beef po-boy.

In the video one guy is like "how many sandwiches are wet" or something similar and I was like...

I don't know if Gumbo is higher than 4 on this list if it was actually done correctly, but I do know that it is above the 4 they have listed. Those are joke choices besides the Italian beef as foods to represent those states.

With only 3 judges, one person's low rating can greatly skew the result. That's why the burger won. No one is going to give a really good burger a bad rating. On the other hand, something like gumbo hits some people wrong.

I love gumbo, but of the big traditional Louisiana dishes that everyone knows, I would personally put gumbo behind both etouffee and jambalaya.

I laughed when they were doing the Michigan meat pie because I've had it and the Natchitoches meat pie is far superior.

ETA: I would also put a good debris poboy ahead of an Italian beef sandwich but I do like the Italian beef. I love Chicago style pizza and Chicago dogs (both above Italian beef), so Illinois is another state with multiple recognizable dishes associated with it.

I'm in Atlanta a lot, haven't ever heard of this. Must be going to the wrong parts of ATL.

Edit: Ah it got famous from a TV show doing a joke about it. It wasn't even what the restaurant called the wings before the show did it. Dumb to vote that your state food.

"I don't want to eat gumbo when it's 115 degrees outside," Joshua Weissman.
