I went last night for their AYCE Boiled Shrimp special, shrimp were boiled very well and had just enough seasoning. Every time I have gone I was not disappointed with the food. However, I noticed most of their customers last night was 65+. It was like i was at a nursing home!! How long can the restaurant stay open? Their clientele will be dropping soon.

them hushpuppies though, could eat them all day

Very geriatric loyalist patronage, and also due to Lyons, GIC, various insurance, funeral sales, etc..ballroom usage, creates some familiarity. But, in fairness, the food I've had at Gridiron Club or Lyon's Club, etc..is always on point, and in huge portion.

Parrains and La Lagniappe have supplanted them in the recent decades as the hot spots.

Jubans, Roux 51, etc..BR is no longer just a 1980s Mike Anderson or Drusilla town.

I've noticed that too. I've also noticed that is rarely full. It just seems dated inside and attracts mostly blue-hairs, but the food has always been good.

I grab their half shrimp poboy, fries and a salad for lunch sometimes. It's good and up until a few months ago was like $7. I think they wised up and raised the price to $9-10 which still isn't a bad.

The U.S. population is aging. Today, there are more than 46 million older adults age 65 and older living in the U.S.; by 2050, that number is expected to grow to almost 90 million. Between 2020 and 2030 alone, the time the last of the baby boom cohorts reach age 65, the number of older adults is projected to increase by almost 18 million. This means by 2030, 1 in 5 Americans is projected to be 65 years old and over.

It was a dated interior 20 years ago. I can't say I've had a bad meal there, but that's only out of 2-3 meals I've ever had there.

I like the food at drusilla and I like not having to wait for 45 minutes for a table on a Saturday night. I could care less about the decor. Hell before Brunet's closed, that was my go to spot and that places decor was straight outta 1979.

most people that age are on a fixed income and don't care about the bells and whistles of an updated environment. They want good food and don't care to spend their money to eat sub par food in a trendy joint.
If use see a bunch of blue hairs in a restaurant, the food is probably pretty good and not expensive.

Do they still have those weird wicker chairs that are uncomfortable as hell to sit in?

They used to have an awesome pasta dish there called Pasta Diablo or something, had shrimp and oysters and jalapeños and onions and other goodies in it, but they took it off the menu several years ago, so I stopped going as often. Also back in the early 2000s when I was teaching we were having our annual Quiz Bowl, and my job was to go around to area businesses and try to get them to donate prizes. The female manager at Drusilla was a huge bitch, saying “Everybody always wants me to give something - how about you give ME something? No, I’m not giving anything.” After that I was like “frick this place.” I have gone back a couple times for their raw oyster specials, but nothing really compels me to go there.

I worked there in college. Every restaurant is less than honest about their menu, product, and prep. No place in my going on 30 years of food and beverage experience lied more or faked it more than there. It was a bad place.

I used to take customers there for lunch in the 90s, their broiled fish was always spot on.
TroutSpecil with mushrooms and cheese sauce, red snapper with crab meat,
Always wanted a couple of those pans the cooked the fish in?.their oysters wrapped in bacon were good as well.

I'll add this...1980 +/- 2 years, they opened a restaurant in Hammond. Was selling them provisions and got to know the back of the house pretty well. I enjoyed their food and their hushpuppies were second to none.

I was there about 13 years ago for a 20 person dinner and was very underwhelmed. Even the hushpuppies did not deliver.

This!! We dined there a few weeks ago when my wife requested some good fish dish choices. No wait for table, no waiter rushing us, quiet not noisy and the food was excellent. We enjoyed it very much. Man I do miss Brunet's

I actually opened my Valpack junk mailer today and there was a BOGO 50% off entree [or] free dessert or appetizer to Drusilla in there, for those of you who live in BR and go there.
