Was at lunch today and the woman at the table next to us who is 6 months pregnant orders a bottle of wine. So she's sitting there pounding down wine with her table mates while talking the whole time about her fertility treatments she had undergone b/c she had difficulty getting pregnant. It took every ounce of will power I had not to say something.

Yeah, I know - mind my own business, which I did. But Jesus Christ, how trashy do you have to be?? She already had trouble getting pregnant, and then she proceeds to drink while she is pregnant?? And nobody at her table seemed to have a problem with it.

Did I miss some new study that says drinking while pregnant is now ok?? Sorry for the rant, but this really bothered me.

Pounding a bottle of wine while pregnant is still a no-no as far as I know

My wife would have a glass every week or so while pregnant. I think that’s okay.

My mother and all her friends certainly drank while pregnant (1960’s).
Chronic alcohol abuse is obviously dangerous to the child but occasional use is not a big deal

WebMd told my wife 1 glass per week in third trimester was acceptable.

One bottle is 4-5 glasses so she was definitely overindulging.

The amount of alcohol you have to consume to cause issues for your baby is pretty high. Now if she was having a bottle a day…. That would be a problem

This is what I was told, too

Mind your own fricking business. Drinking in your last trimester isn’t a big deal, I doubt she drank the whole bottle of wine by herself.

I would want my wife to be very careful during the first trimester, then careful the rest of the way. For us, (45 years back), that meant no drinking while pregnant. Lots of folks do things a lot worse, not that that means anything.

A bottle of wine between a table of people? you'd be lucky to get a second glass out of the bottle... I get it doesn't look good to others, but doesn't seem like a terrible offense...

Seems irresponsible. Why even take a chance. I could see a sip but no reason a responsible mother can’t go 9 months without alcohol to ensure a healthy baby.

Congrats on your newborn.
Please refrain from giving advice on topics you clearly know nothing about.
There is no known “safe” amount of alcohol to drink while pregnant. It might not be a big deal, but it might be a really big deal.
Also, fetal alcohol syndrome remains the number 1 leading cause of preventable retardation in the US.

And then drove carpool and no one wore a seatbelt and most of them smoked.

And we all turned out fine. We also rode our bikes without a helmet.

I don't find anything wrong with a woman carrying a baby in her 3rd trimester having a glass of wine at dinner once a week or so. If she's taking Rumpleminze shots and chain smoking then maybe that's a big enough deal to post about it on Tigerdroppings.

These same scientist/Doctors told me to wear a mask and stay home for 2 weeks to stop the spread. LOL.

There is basically zero evidence that light drinking (ie a glass of wine) will harm your child in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Fetal alcohol syndrome is developed in the early stages of pregnancy when most women aren’t even aware that they are pregnant.

ETA: the only “advice” that I gave in this thread is that the OP should mind his own business

If you watched her drink the whole bottle you weren’t minding your own business.
