Why is the resturant and bar scene so terrible in downtown baton rouge..
If you go to other more progressive college towns they have a great resturant and bar experience...why can't baton rouge move out of the 1800's..

What exactly is wrong with the current “restaurant scene” downtown?

Using the word "progressive" is automatic grounds for a down vote.

Because Baton Rouge’s downtown is so terrible. It’s out of the way for anyone to get to and we all know traffic in BR is horrible. And nothing else is downtown to attract anyone come there.

Well to start, Baton Rouge isn’t a college town. Downtown is too far from LSU with no real good public transportation option.

Stroube’s was very popular around 2010 or so, but you rarely hear it being talked about anymore.

Restaurant IPO didn’t last too long. This was around that 7-10 years ago timeframe.

Lucy’s was pretty cool with decent enough bar food but they didn’t last too long and Lava Cantina came after and same thing, closed down shop rather fast.

You live in Prairieville. Getting downtown for a 7pm-8pm dinner reservation will take most people who live in Baton Rouge proper less than ten minutes.

In the last two weeks, I've had dinner at both Cocha and Tsunami. Both were at capacity. So, it doesn't seem as though being downtown is quite the disincentive that people like to claim that it is.

6 hours and not one mention of Cocha? Best food downtown by a mile and the newly renovated outdoor seating is very nice. Only reason I regularly go downtown to eat, to be honest.

And then what? Drive out for a meal and then have to drive somewhere else to do something and risk running into a dui trap? To many good restaurants around town to risk that for many. Downtown is just not a destination for this BR. They tried while Kip was in office and made some progress but it’s gone by the wayside again.

Politically progressive? I hope those little shits stay wherever they are. Downtown is a pain in the arse to park, you are not going to attract the numbers it takes to thrive. Gov't St may grow into what you are looking for.

The mayor city council and the downtown development district are all doing a great job in keeping baton rouge BORING

People who live in Baton Rouge don't need it to be a destination, anymore than we need the Overpass area, or the Government Street Corridor, or Perkins Rowe to be a destination. According to Google Maps, it would take me 10m to get to Parrain's right now and 11m to get to Cocha. And I live in Jefferson/Corporate.

This feels like when people complain about "Baton Rouge traffic" when what they mean is that they get stuck coming over the New Bridge. Want to know what people who live and work in Baton Rouge practically never do? Drive over the New Bridge.

LSU is the only SEC school to have a bar scene that holds regular free drinks for 2 hours.

Your premise is horse shite on that alone.

Yes I used to live on the west side and when I moved to BR I was worried about all the “traffic”. Since I’ve moved I see very little traffic outside of the normal 5pm weekday rush hour because now I never need to get on the interstate

Yep. I live off Highland and I get to work downtown in 10-12 minutes each day. And I take the scenic route where I go over the overpass and take Park to North Blvd!

The other day my friend had an appt on Coursey and Waze told her 14 minutes from downtown.

Its really not bad at all if you live in town.

Also I love Cocha!

Enrique and Saskia are a delight. When we aren't dealing with a global pandemic, I eat there at least once a week. Even now, I probably get there every couple of weeks or so.

Like I've said before, when I'm climbing into my car in the morning, I check traffic. If the interstate is green, I take that, and it takes me about 10m to get downtown. If the interstate is a parking lot, I take Jefferson up to Government up to North (just because it's a prettier drive) and I'm downtown in about 16m.

And again, it's not like I live "close by". It's an almost eight mile drive

As often as I'm there, I feel like we have to have crossed paths at some point
