UPDATE 4/27/22.
Apologies for the spelling, it is Dorignac's.
Thanks for all the input for suggested items. I did find several not available here in Lafayette. St Josephs bread, stuffed artichoke, creole cream cheese and some good veal. Great cheese and liquor selection. thanks for your help.
Headed thru New Orleans today. I've always been told I should stop at Dornac's. Can a local advise the "must haves" ?
thanks

It’s Dorignacs. It’s a cool grocery. Huge liquor department with good prices, huge meat department with hard to find cuts of meat, and aisles that are too small to fit down. Oh, and Beware of all of the old people that will get in your way as you shop. It’s worth a stop if you have time.

I wouldn't touch my brake pedal...especially for a grocery store.
eta: on second thought, Dorignac's is in Metarie. You might be alright.

The last muff I got there was not that good... They put some kind of spice in the olive salad that overpowered the whole sandwich.. The only thing that I have gotten there that is unique is the "blood" sausage. I know it's not real but it is tasty.. They do have a decent on site bakery..

They have a lot of different veal cuts if you need veal. Good alcohol selection. Bakery area for some different sweet items.

If you are there around Lunch or Dinner then Royal China right near there has pretty good Chinese food.

Chill out Nancy. It's on Veterans in Metairie. Nobody is getting shot or robbed at Dorginacs.

I shop there for some things, good alcohol, beer and wine selection, decent cheese selections. Meat and bakery are good.
I wouldn't make a special trip there though unless you were looking for alcohol.

I don't know about "must haves", but if this is your only stop in the area, you can find some things you might enjoy at home.
I had the muffalatta from there recently. I thought it was pretty good for a grocery muff, but needed more olive salad. I didn't care for the stuffed artichoke, but I'm not a big fan of those overall anyway.
We had their crawfish bisque Easter weekend which was very good, but apparently, they only make it for good Friday.
The hot house tomatoes there right now are pretty darn good for this time of year.

They have Creole Cream Cheese there in dairy. For a long time it was hard to find.
Eat it with a little sugar sprinkled on top.

definitely follow to cart traffic as the aisles are one-way. If you go the wrong way someone's 92-year-old grandmother might chew your ear off Been a looooong time since I've been to Dorignac's as my aunt would always buy her meat their to make Braciole. I definitely remember the stuffed artichokes and muff's from their also. Good grocery store as it's definitely an old-school New Orleans thing.

If you mean Dorignac’s it is a good grocery store but the only reason to go out of your way to go there is if you are in to wine and want to visit their wine department which is excellent. Total Wines is the standard and they are right down the street. Butcher shop is very good.

I’ve heard people from out of town stocking up on liquor and wine.
Excellent selection and prices.
Excellent meat department with butchers out front ready to cut anything you like.
Best all around grocery in the New Orleans area. IMO
And baggers at every check out line!

Dorignac's. A family name you would not spell incorrectly, back in the day.
