Coquette is adding 5% to the bill to pay for sick leave and other benefits.

Not sure why they aren't just increasing prices 5% and instead feel the need to let you know they are doing it.

Just looked at the website and the menu. I'll take a wild guess that the people that work there all have beards, black rimmed glasses, many tattoos, and wear skinny jeans.

Enjoy your $12 bologna sandwich...

Yeah, an auto 15% gratuity at a freaking counter-serve place is pretty much horseshite.

Surely they weren't paying anyone there half-minimum waitstaff wages before this, huh?

Ignorant for having heretical thoughts? What have I said that is factually incorrect?

Also, I never said that the neighborhood around Turkey and Wolf is bad. I was trying to be polite in saying that I did not mean to imply that it was. I could have said, "Can you read?"

It might be the most hipster place in NOLA. If not it is up there. Their social media is second to none in terms of being ultra annoying.

That being said...

They were named Best New Restaurant in the Country by Bon Appetit a few years ago and have been nominated for a James Beard...as a sandwich shop.

Their food is VERY good. The bologna is legit although it isn't even close to my favorite. The Pork and Peppers roti bread sandwich is fricking killer.

I enjoy it. I don't even think theirs is the most expensive bologna sandwich in the city. $12 is pretty standard for a sandwich these days.

As if the price of restaurants wasnt already outrageous these days here's a mandatory extra 15%. I assume this is for take-out as well. WHy should I tip for take-out?

Yeah the collard green Reuben is probably the best, and the wedge salad is one of my favorite things in the city. Honestly $12 for how big the bologna sandwich is with the big side of chips, it really is a decent deal.

Wikipedia:
quote:

In 1994, the city was officially named the "Murder Capital of America", hitting a historic peak of 424 murders. The murder count surpassed that of such cities as Gary, Indiana, Washington D.C., Chicago, Baltimore and Miami. In 2003 the homicide rate for New Orleans was nearly eight times the national average and the city had the highest per capita city murder rate of any city in the United States, with 274 homicides, up from the previous year.

In 2006, with nearly half the population gone and widespread disruption and dislocation because of deaths and refugee relocations from Hurricane Katrina, the city hit another record of homicides. It was ranked as the most dangerous city in the country. By 2009, there was a 17% decrease in violent crime, a decrease seen in other cities across the country. But the homicide rate remained among the highest in the United States, at between 55 and 64 per 100,000 residents. In 2010, New Orleans' homicide rate dropped to 49.1 per 100,000, but increased again in 2012, to 53.2, the highest rate among cities of 250,000 population or larger.

The murder rate climbed 14% in 2011 to 57.88 per 100,000 rising to #21 in the world. In 2016, according to annual crime statistics released by the New Orleans Police Department, 176 were murdered. In 2017, New Orleans had the highest rate of gun violence, surpassing the more populated Chicago and Detroit.

WGNO: Murders are up 47.6%
quote:

The bumps are pretty significant. According to New Orleans City Council’s crime dashboard, non-fatal shootings are up 41.6% since 2019. Murders are up 47.6%. There’s been 39 more deaths as compared to this time last year.
I Googled too. So what? The violent crime rate in New Orleans is terrible.

Imagine going into a place trying to inflame someone and they get inflamed.

Shocker.

Can I get an over/under on how long this policy lasts? It seems that at most of the ones that try it, it's pretty short lived.

Restaurants could raise prices 15%, we’d probably never notice, and get rid of tipping altogether.

That’d be a great day.
