Tipping or not, this place is a hipster cultural cancer serving shite like bologna sandwiches.

They're also fanatical BLM. They say that if you have any uncertainty about whether you align with the BLM movement, this restaurant is not for you. We're supposed to "interrupt our investment in the racist systems from which we benefit." The nice neighborhoods that my parents and grandparents grew up in in NOLA are fricking hellholes now. Interrupt that system and GFY.

Baw you should not eat anywhere in the city, or any city for that matter, if you think they are unique in their views.

Their bologna sandwich isn't even their best sandwich, very lame attempt to downplay their food.

To be fair, this is about the average. In a short order place like Turkey and the Wolf, they probably only receive a tip at all from half the customers and it’s a much lower percentage than the sit down patrons tip.

So 15% to give all staff a bump is pay is probably welcomed.

Down what way? Do you think that most neighborhoods in New Orleans don't have extremely high rates of violent crime?

What is the accounting loophole behind this? Why not just increase each menu item by 15%.

You pay when you order anyway, so you would be tipping before you got service as is. How bad can service really be for someone to bring you your food? Everything else is self-service.

Psychological reason, I’m sure. Restaurants that have done away with tipping and increased prices lost business because people see $15+ sandwiches on the menu and say no way.

Whereas you have normal prices and a service charge and people don’t think of it the same way.

Same reason we are one of the only countries that prices things at $X.99 and don’t add in tax until the register.

Exactly. I no longer have control over how much I tip if I happen to get really bad service. And I generally tip 20% or more, but if you're putting an automatic tip onto my bill, then I'm not tipping extra, so for my bill, you're costing your server money. I'm not a fan of this model.

For every 1 person that tips well, servers probably get 5 tables that don't.

There will probably be some times where a server would earn more than a regular wage, but that's offset by the nights they don't make shite.

You're right that they aren't unique in their views. But those views are stupid. I'll always irrationally love New Orleans but it has turned into an impoverished, crime filled shithole. It pisses me off when people talk about New Orleans that way but it's true.

Seems like you have a rational understanding of things so no need for a response here.

I don't know the place. I was just responding in general about restaurants going away from tipping then back.

As mentioned, that higher price seems to turn folks off.

Restaurants were losing longtime wait staff and became unstable. Looking out for the overall welfare of their staff hurt their business in the long run.

i mean.....if servers were paid minimum wage or above minimum wage the price of food would increase accordingly. the only problem i have with this is not being able to withhold a tip for shoddy service.

Does this happen to you that often? Maybe it's just because most of the restaurants I go to, I'm either a regular or at least an occasional repeat customer, so I'm likely to leave a standard or larger than standard tip.

If I receive shoddy service somewhere, I generally just don't go back.

I only ate here once and it just came across as overpriced hipster food truck fare. Wasn't really planning on going back but adding 15% for what's essentially non-existent service? Hard pass.
