La Tia in metairie.
not typical tex mex more "street tacos" and original dishes.
i try to throw them some love as much as possible because i find the area lacking otherwise.

I go to Mexico enough that I know the regions. We mostly get Tex mex here but Oaxacan is what's favored in Mexico itself.
Moles and hearty meals. Burritos and nachos aren't a thing in Mexico really.
Crispy tacos are American.
I like Mayan cuisine. Like fish tikin chik. Or arrencho steak.
Tamales wrapped in banana leaf and corn empanadas.
What surprised me is how common spicy pasta is instead of rice. They serve a spaghetti with red sauce that is spicy rather than Mexican rice with the meat commonly in the Yucatan.

Tio Javis Baton Rouge
Great margs, great salsa, and the fajitas with the chihuahua topping is soooo good

El Paso in Mandeville. Prices, quality quantity and taste are great. Comes our very quickly as well.
Pacos for lunch or different style. Great though.

Superica in Atlanta, although it's tex-mex.
Growing up all we had was the cheap/southern/strip mall type Mexican (I assume this exists in Louisiana). My wife, a Texan oddly enough, loves that stuff, but I don't. As with BBQ, GA Mexican has become heavily Texas-influenced in the last decade.

I would love a good coastal Mexican restaurant here in LA. I’m sure there is one I don’t know about

We rotate, haven’t really found one that sticks out. Probably go to El Paso most often because it’s closest to our house (well outside of overpriced Agave which I refuse to go to).

I heard that Maria's has gone way downhill and has been overtaken by Yolo's. I grew up in Bogalusa and Maria's was always the place to go when it opened.
I little quieter since people go to Yoyos but the food at Maria’s is still superior.

I don't really have a home base Mexican restaurant but do enjoy going to Los Reyes on Coursey.
We eat there a fair amount as well because we live pretty close. It's a solid place.
