We're just going to have to agree to disagree. If I want to eat a donut, I'll just eat a donut.

I can sympathize with that, as if I wanted to eat King Cake, I would just eat a cinnamon roll

But I am of the opinion that the novelty of King Cake far exceeds the actual product. It’s just a cinnamon roll with colored sugar.

And cinnamon rolls are fricking delicious

If I could get away with eating cinnamon rolls once or twice a week I surely would

Did you ever have a McKenzie’s king cake? Cream cheese was an improvement for it

King cakes of any variety are so far down my sweets list they might as well be fruit cake

I like them more than fruit cake but they are overrated to me too, ones with cream cheese, traditional from Randazzos, all of them.

Except cinnamon rolls aren't dry, while traditional King Cakes generally are. So cinnamon rolls >>>> King Cakes

No, that pudding is what they call "Bavarian." I've seen places ship it in, it comes pre-made in a huge bucket or 7-lb. can or bag (the same stuff you'll see in the "dessert" section at buffet restaurants) that costs about 1/2 cent an ounce and they pump or shovel that slop in there. The appropriate name would "crappy generic vanilla pudding king cake"

Randozos regular king cake and some of the others don't taste dry to me.

Ding Phong is the only one I know that bakes the filling in. I think that's another reason for their popularity.

To me a good king cake is far from dry. Sadly I can’t get a good one at HEB in Houston.

Dong Phuong's cream cheese cake is amazing. It is so light but yet still filled with cream cheese.

I agree, a grocery store cream cheese king cake is gross.

All the LC baws swear on a Nelson's King Cake, but its just a fricking donut.

I still haven't had a good traditional king cake. I only eat the cream cheese ones and those are decent. King cakes just aren't my thing I guess. Would much rather have a donut or something.
