I used to love the little sliver of cream cheese in a good king cake as a kid. Unfortunately, most bakeries around BR don't properly proof their cakes, so they are unleavened and dry. To make up for their mediocrity in the kitchen, they pump about 30 ounces of pudding they falsely call cream cheese into them. The sugar on top makes it look like a king cake, but the actual product is a pitiful approximation.

End rant.

A well-made king cake with cream cheese is better than any plain king cake IMO.
Have to find you a new bakery.

I definitely agree that many bakeries use cream cheese or other fillings as a crutch to hide their dry arse cake

but I do love a cream cheese king cake, even the bad ones

I never thought about it but yeah. The cream cheese in king cakes has more closely resembled a pudding for the texture and flavor.

I would rather have a decently made cream cheese King Cake than a expertly made plain King Cake. But I am of the opinion that the novelty of King Cake far exceeds the actual product. It’s just a cinnamon roll with colored sugar.

Which bakery fills the king cake with cream cheese? The ones I've had they put the cream cheese on top then add the frosting.

Cream cheese ruins everything.

I don’t want it in my king cake.
I don’t want it shoved into my boudin balls, stuffed shrimp, quail, chicken thighs, etc.
I don’t want it in my jalapeños.
I don’t want it in my sushi rolls.

Next some neck beard brewer is going to put it in beer.

If you're that butthurt, just eat a cinnamon roll. King Cakes are just oversized, dry cinnamon rolls after all.

Exactly what they are. I love Randazzo's King Cakes and their cinnamon rolls have the exact same flavor sans the green, purple and gold color sugar sprinkled over the white icing. I guess that justifies the price of those damn things.

Not sure who puts it on the inside, not sure how you would braid then roll.

I know Haydels puts the cream cheese on after it comes out of the proofer, then bakes it.

I think Haydel's may have the best cream cheese king cake. Not that goopy mess most places sell.

ETA: but their praline pecan is my go to.

Yet this board loves to hate on donut King Cakes, which are vastly superior
