Went today with a family group of 7- signs at the front said seating 6 only but can separate into smaller groups.

We were the 8th family in line when they opened. We asked to be separated into 3 and 4 tops.

She told us she could not promise us that she could give us two tables near each and that we needed to not get up to visit each other’s table. Then she seated the first table basically as an island- with no other tables nearby.

We bailed. We thought we could at least be seated close to each other.

We went to Willies where they welcomed us and let us sit together on this beautiful Good Friday.

Chimes- u suck.

Idk. I won’t be back again.

It was the weirdest feeling walking out past all of the other people in line.

They were looking at us and whispering “more than 6” - like we should be ashamed for trying to get together with the kids and their grandparents.

Here’s a list of restaurants that have accommodated us (as a 6+ group) recently.

Rotolo’s millerville
Snow top
Wayne’s bbq
City cafe o’neal
Burger smith highland
Casa lavida Coursey
Willies
Walk ons- port Allen and Zachary

Southern pearl

Thank you to these places for allowing family and friends to gather and enjoy a meal together.

Chimes has been weird this past year. We used to go weekly prior to the pandemic, but they've continued to keep the setup they had back last spring even as restrictions have eased, so its just kinda weirdly empty in there. Speaking to LSU -- I don't know about Coursey.

It is strange seeing both them and Bulldog standing firm in being so strict when their competitors are practically printing money due to being a lot more relaxed.

Went there a few weeks ago. Told 20 minute wait. After a few minutes, I asked if I could go to the bar and buy drinks. I was told I had to be seated at the bar to buy drinks, and then she ignored me. So, I interrupted and said, Well, would you sit me at the bar so I can buy some drinks? There probably was a little icyness in my tone.
Magically, a table became ready and we headed off to the back.

We tried going once a few months ago and the wait was crazy long and we left. They still have a huge tent in the parking lot with tables. There's no way I am sitting in the parking lot to eat.
They seem to be really strict on the Covid restrictions still. I choose to go eat elsewhere.

Add Southern Pearl to the list of restaurants that will seat 7. We ate there in February.

I know Natchitoches sucks in a lot of ways but this isn't one of them. Restaurants up here have been doing whatever the frick they want for a while now. I couldn't imagine having to still deal with what has been described in this thread.

Comes on Coursey is a shadow of the one on Highland.

I hope so. More places should. If you really have a problem with the service, bring it up with the manager. If there’s really a problem, you won’t have to pay it or your food will be comped. Otherwise you shouldn’t have an issue with paying mandatory gratuity. It’s 18%, and you should account for it when eating out. Servers and bartenders need to make money just like the rest of us

But I’m preaching to the choir. The people that don’t tip correctly aren’t on this board

I had a similar issue with being seated there in March.

The hostesses at Chimes East are terrible. They have poor customer service skills and they would never work for me. I blame this on management.

This shite would never happen in Texas. Went to Katy Trail Ice House and The Rustic maskless yesterday. Packed houses, great times were had.

It sucks when a business tries to adhere to CDC recommendations and to also keep their employees safe.

Even when 80% or so wear their mask incorrectly while telling you to wear a mask?

Sammy's on Highland will. It's just about returned to its former glory under new management. It's Loud, fast, and good.

Almost said this here earlier. Sammy’s is old Sammy’s again and it’s great. We only do the bar so I can’t speak to the large gatherings, but they are so relaxed in general. It’s great.

Not if they suck at their job. And if they are fair to good, they should make 20-25% easily. But that’s for the customer to decide.
However, I can certainly understand why some restaurants add the gratuity automatically.
