Cheng's takes over old Omi location

I assume this is one of Jeffrey Cheng's (former owner of Hunan on Sherwood) kids? I know his daughter runs Hello Sushi, maybe another venture of hers?

Food quality dramatically fell as Jeffery’s health deteriorated. After his death it went off the cliff.

Looks like they're still remodeling, but the new signage is in place. That building needed some TLC, hopefully they do well there.

I ate at Hunan`s 3 or 4 years ago after everyone telling me it was the best in BR. I had a hard time trying to fill my plate up because half of the stuff was reheated and terrible and the other half was fruit and those crappy deserts. Service sucked as well. I was majorly disappointed as i could`ve picked up Hot Wok or some other stop in place and had better.
I could tell by all of the pictures on the wall with various recognizable faces that it had to have been a great place at one time.

I've seen people here say how good the buffet is, but I've always found it to b pretty meh, even back in the day. About 15 or so years ago we used to order items off the menu and it was legit. I've only been once since Jeffrey passed and it was not good.

I used to work across the street from there and get lunch at least twice a week. That place HAD to have been a money laundering front. Weird hours, never anyone in there that I saw and workers just hanging out around the back/kids running around/kids doing homework in the bar. But the food was absolutely amazing.

Omi had a dish called Quing Chong chicken or something. I am hoping this new place has the same dish, was to die for. Anyone got an idea where I can get that dish in town anywhere?

The last three replies make me very happy. That was the only dish I ordered EVERY time I went to Omi, regardless of what else I wanted to try.

I really miss OMI’s garlic sauce eggplant. Haven’t found a replacement - may even try to make myself if I can find a recipe.

Omi, a restaurant near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Essen Lane that was popular for its authentic Chinese dishes, is set to close.
The building at 7951 One Calais Ave. that houses Omi was sold last week, said Steve Gao, an agent with Re/Max First who had the listing. The restaurant will operate for a few more days.
The Omi building had been for sale for about a year. Gao said the owners wanted to retire and have someone take over the business.

Gao said the new owners plan to run a sushi restaurant and bar in the building.
