I think what you'll see next is little distilleries popping up everywhere and whiskey will be the next big thing.

Aside from the business practices of AB-InBev and Miller-Coors, I just do not like the flavor of light lagers. They are really a turnoff to me.
Thank goodness for beers like Founders All Day IPA, Sierra Nevada Otra Vez and Bell's The Oarsman. I can drink those by the pool all day long, enjoy the full flavor, yet not drink anything above 4.7% ABV, which is basically the same ABV of all the crappy light lagers. I'm an adult with a good job, so $8-9 a six pack is perfectly fine for my to pay for those beers, and I don't have to stoop down to watered down crap.
I also avoid crappy cheap burgers (McDonalds, Burger King, etc), pizza (Little Caesar's) and other inferior products sold at low prices to the masses, so I'm not just picking on beer. Eat and drink what you like though.

You may be right. I think people like drinking and eating local. Distilleries may be harder because of the time to barrel age some of the liquors.
I just checked, and as of 2014, we had 17 distilleries in Portland. Most of which I have not heard of, let alone tried. Seventeen sounds like a lot, and is certainly more than I expected. I'm sure we're not the only city that has a booming distillery industry. I wonder if our beer laws (or lack, thereof) carries over into hard liquor.

Whiskey is not nearly as much of a casual option as craft beer. How many people drink whiskey with dinner, all day on the weekends, after work, etc vs beer.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I started drinking some Abita IPAs a while back, then moved on to some other local IPAs, and haven't bought much in the way of light beer ever since.

This is exactly why local breweries that suck can still make money. Until that local brewery gets pushed out of business by another local brewery, they will draw the local crowd. What better place to have as your after work hangout, than a brewery? If people aren't willing to figure out the difference between BMC and craft beer, they won't figure out the difference between Covington and Parish. Covington is still a step up from BMC, so locals will buy it.

I'm not in college any more and don't make food and drink purchases based purely on their effect on my body. If you are so concerned about getting drunk, down some everclear. It is much cheaper and does the job. If you prefer the taste of high life, that's great!

I wouldn't say any of the ones I listed suck, but I suppose that's one aspect. Some are local by choice. Some are new.

I didn't mean to imply that. You have more refined tastes and wouldn't drink Covington just because it's local. For you, it had better be local AND good. But, in general, people prefer to support locally produced products over out-of-state products. That was my point.
Most of the FBDers would prefer a Dale's Pale Ale over Jockamo. But if the choice is between Envie and Dale's, they would go with Envie, if the quality was similar. I happen to think that Envie blows Dale's out of the water, but what do I know?
Right now, I see people drinking THA, but it's seems to be more of a changeup. Envie and GitM are the beer of choice for people on the FBD board, as they should be. Hopefully someone local will come along and brew some beers that give Parish a run for their money.

I am a craft beer drinker almost exclusively but I'll gladdly drink a natty from time to time.
It's the perfect shite beer IMO. Light and taste like nothing. Plus if you are at a tailgate or pool party BMC drinks scuff at i and won't bum it

Dale's is a great comparison. Cause I would have crushed it 3 years ago but now lousinana has better pale ales (envie and commotion) both of which are easier to find fresh

Of course the bottom line is the buzz, but if faced with inferior beer choices, I am going to drink a cocktail or wine rather than a beer I don't like (crawfish boil is the exception). I think the "hobby" part of it is the hunt for good brews and and the social part of sharing a good brew with a fellow beer geek.

What are the chances that on the day this story was written, Coors signed a large ad buy with CBS?
This story is so out there that it makes me think it was paid for.
There has probably been a saturation of the market of those who will drink craft beer. Many of my friends drink nothing but local/regional brands. I also have a few friend that will never, ever move away from Bud Light.
Also, the big craft guys like Sam Adams... I can see them start to lose to the smaller guys.
