Now there are probably too many breweries and too many craft beers that it is more difficult to follow than it was 7 years ago. For me, it went from a hobby trying new stuff to feeling more like a chore. More choice is better, but it can be overwhelming for the casual beer drinker wanting better than Bud but not wanting to spend much time on blogs and beer advocate. And now everyone thinks their craft beer is GOAT when most of it is pretty "meh," more misses than hits recently. That said, hopefully breweries can begin to consolidate, combine knowledge (group think) to make better beers, and start to produce in ways to lower product costs to put a new pressure on the giants.

I think you're painting with a really broad brush.
I think that, ultimately, a lot of the fun comes because it gets you drunk, but that's not the sole point nor really even the root. It tastes great (well not always, but you get my point), and there's tons of it out there to try, so it also becomes a hobby in the way of wanting to try everything that's out there and brewing. That is why craft beer is so popular and awesome. That is why that, while I love a big heavy stout or a hoppy DIPA, I still love Terrapin's watermelon gose.
If the whole point is just to get drunk and not care about the flavor or the artistry that can go into beer, then we'd all just drink natty or high life and have fun and get drunk.

How is getting drunk the bottom line? I'd say there's a lot more middle ground than that.

Everyone thinks there's is the best so I hope we have seen the peak. It's gotten out of control
There was an article in the dallas paper a while back saying there were 17 permits for breweries to open in the next year. Enough already

Maybe we'll see a return to the neighborhood breweries rather than the regional ones.
I still don't think places down south are at maximum saturation... BR could easily support a few more breweries if they were in convenient locations.

Most of these just remain neighborhood taprooms, just like the coffee shops. The best of the best grow and become regional breweries. I still find breweries in Portland that I had no clue even existed, because they are in neighborhoods that I don't go to, often.
If a brewery is good enough, I will go to it. For example, Great Notion doesn't sell beer outside the brewery. There beer is worth going there to drink, IMO. I expect them to grow, though, and I will start seeing their beer in taprooms that are in my neighborhood.

I like craft beers, but I don't see any issue in grabbing a 12 of white labels when day drinking in the heat.
Too many people on here seem to act as if enjoying good/great beer is mutually exclusive to drinking cheap light beer.

I guess the best way to sum it up for me is if I'm only going to have 2-3 beers, I want them to be better than a major brewery's offering. I hardly ever have just one, and rarely go past 3-4. And at that point, I'm switching to Miller Lite, Bud Light, or something else light. The only difference would be if I'm at the pool or the beach. Then it is cheap beer from the start to the finish.
