Can't stand food with truffle oil

I've tried. My wife buys those gigantic bags of truffle chips from Costco and I'll eat one to see if anything has changed and nope. It's just too overpowering.
Tonight we had a flatbread that's been in the freezer for months that was mushroom and truffle oil and again she loved hers but I couldn't take 2 bites.
Is this an acquired taste or do I have a gene that makes it taste and smell like shite to me?

I’m guessing genetic. I eat everything and that stuff makes me gag.

Friend,
You are not alone. Freshly cut truffles are among the best gifts on Earth. Truffle oil, on the other hand, is the Mercedes C class of olive oil — cheap, pretentious, appealing to unrefined palates, ostentatious, and ultimately a simulacrum. You would never ruin a good olive oil by infusing it with anything much less cheap byproduct of truffles. A good olive oil is at its best served as God intended: pure.

My nose turns when someone walks by with a plate of truffle oil fries. Yuck.

Most restaurant truffle oil is simply just processed chemicals that taste sort of like truffles.

truffles themselves are incredible. Truffle oil is just nasty

This is a great comparison
Want to feel fancy with a dumbed down version of the real thing.
Bravo, Friend

I have a bottle of truffle oil in the pantry that was a gift. Tried using it on a few things and have not liked the results. Truffle fries on the other hand, [insert Homer drooling gif]

I agree. It's fake chemical BS. Only the real deal for me.

I have to completely agree with you. I have not had any real Truffles, but I do know that anything tainted with Truffle oil is a turn-off for me.

I vomit after going out to dinner where there is truffle oil in the food. I've got some kind of allergy or intolerance. shite makes me feel fricking awful later on

Truffle oil can be made by infusing olive oil with real truffles. This process is more time-consuming than using a chemical alternative.
Chemical compounds
Many truffle oils are made with chemical compounds that mimic the aroma and taste of truffles. The most common chemical used is 2,4-dithiapentane, which can be legally called "truffle aroma" or "truffle flavor" even though it's not extracted from truffles.
Side effects
…
side effects of 2,4-dithiapentane
According to the classification provided by companies to ECHA in REACH registrations this substance is a flammable liquid and vapour, causes serious eye irritation, is harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects and causes skin irritation.

Yeah that sounds like something that I'd want to eat.

I have 2 containers of truffle oil. One black and one white.
Made in Italy.
Ingredients: extra virgin olive oil, dried white/black truffle and….artificial flavor
It’s probably that bullshite stuff.
Going in the trash.

It's like Tabasco. Doesn't enhance any flavors. It just makes whatever you're eating taste like what you poured on it.

I don’t care for it either. Aftertaste or something.
