I see my dentist twice a year. Last visit, I specifically asked about the health and strength of my teeth (because I have a brother who is losing all of his). Mine appear to be very strong and healthy.

Sigh. I know I need to give up the Diet DP.

Dear MD, sorry for the threadjack.

Most of the other responses were stating how bad something I enjoy looked. Was kind of you to threadjack that.

I'm doing the low carb thing too. We had hot dogs this week as well. I used romaine lettuce as bread and made a hot dog wrap with sautéed onions and bell pepper. Hebrew National and Nathan's for us. Awesome.

Quite frankly, atkins would not recommend you eat hot dog weiners.

This is not correct. I think you may be mixing Atkins up with the Southbeach diet guy. Plus, Atkins is not above ground at this time.

eta: nice pun

I sometimes pan sear or grill hot dogs when I have a craving for them. That mustard slaw would add some crunch when I eat them bunless. Can't do the Hormek though. I have bad memories of that.

Hot dogs are hot dogs, and that's fine. Not much improvement there.

Mustard slaw is...well...mustard and cabbage, so not much you can do there.

But why not make a great low carb chili to eat over the dogs? I know Hormel must be nostalgic, but the homemade chili would not only taste better, but be better for you.

Nathans hotdogs!

Can't y'all just picture Rohan sitting in his house, with the blinds closed, eating a can of potted meat with a plastic fork?

Looks good MD and there's nothing wrong with having a can of Hormel if you like it and especially if it triggers happy childhood memories.

It might be an aging thing but I'm somewhere over the half a century mark and I find myself ocassionally eating things that I haven't had since being a kid. Case in point...fish sticks. Living in LA means that we always have good fresh seafood available and I take full advantage of it. I'm currently thawing out some specs, shrimp and crab claws for tonight's dinner but every so often, I'll pick up some Gorton's fish sticks. Bake 'em in the oven, open a can of small English peas (because my wife says that they always had English peas w/ fish sticks, as a kid), a simple slaw and we have supper. That's gotta be worse than eating Hormal chili but it makes us happy (which is what food is supposed to do) and brings back memories of simpler times. Maybe it's not age, maybe it's senility.

Anyway, good luck on the diet!

in all seriousness, i think this looks just like something you would see on the sidewalk in front of pat o'brien's during mardi gras at about 3AM after someone had too many hurricanes and tried to eat a lucky dog ..
