They are doing really great business for takeout and etc through all of this, so its probably more feasible for them to do this than open up at 25% capacity and have to do all the contact tracing BS.

It really makes me wonder how many places are going to do so as well or not open up at all until Phase 2.

Buddy of mine owns a BBQ place here in Alabama. They had to rearrange some things to get drive thru service. They are killing it. They have no plans to offer dine in service at 50% occupancy. He said they'd lose money doing that.

I was told by some around here that this is a very simple and burdenless procedure

Makes sense - BBQ Shops are probably among the best genre of places for takeout. Most people don't eat BBQ for the ambiance or dining room experience. It's quick and dirty.

Honestly I wonder if more restaurants will open for take out.

I think a big issue was that a lot of people were still anxious early on about even going for delivery.

A few months later I feel like people are going to be more willing to risk it for food they didn't cook.

Places are starting to come out and say they won't open or "aren't ready" to open in Phase 1, aka its not worth it.

Palm & Pine is the latest one but I think you're going to see a bunch.

And the labor is cheap. You dont need a bunch of people there to constantly cook and prepare all the food

Blue Oak can only fit so many people in that place at 100% capacity. Kudos to them for adapting when so many just closed down.

I had blue oak last night. They had plenty of business. Also, if I cam correct, the contact tracing is voluntary for patrons to participate in?

But you’ll give them your CC info over the phone or into their online portal

This contact tracing isn’t why they won’t open. It makes no sense to seat people if their takeout operation is going fine, like it is. You need more manpower to do that & it’s just not cost effective

It’s just nice that a business can choose how they wish to operate.

My regular spot keeps going back and forth. They've been killing it with takeout orders, so they had originally said they wouldn't bother with the 25% thing. But last night I got a photo of the inside "socially distanced", so I guess they were convinced otherwise.

Only thing I can think is: I know with them, and probably anyone else who was able to secure PPP loan money, they had to hire back the majority of their staff to meet the requirements of the loan. My place said they got 95% of them back by paying them regular payroll + the difference to hit what unemployment was paying them.

So with 95% of your staff on the books standing around with hardly anything to do (how many people does it really take to do takeout?), you may as well open up and assign a few of them the inside.

Anyone who didn't get the PPP loan makes sense to stay takeout only right now.

A lot of places in Knoxville have stayed close during Phase 1... and we are at 50% capacity with no contact tracing.

I think it's a combination of staffing, and in some cases public perception.

If you're doing fine on takeout only, I don't see the rush.

That way you can get a pat on the back from the "going out in public is so dangerous" crowd.

I would think a lot of places are going to remain takeout for as long as they can.

the places that are doing well with takeout will. But there are a ton of places that didn't do shite takeout so they will have to open.

Looks like Company Burger is following suit and is remaining takeout for now.
