Looking to head across the lake tonight with the wife for a nice filet. Any suggestions?
I know Ruth’s and Fleming’s are chains, but is there anything better? There are plenty of upscale seafood restaurants in NOLA but what are some other options for steak?

Mr Johns is good. Doris Metropolitan is a little better to me, but not by much. La Boca has either been great or barely average in my visits.

Nice little night out. Maybe stop at Home Depot along the way.

Also:

Doris Metropolitan (get the classified cut not the filet)

If you are just getting filet I don't think any place is much better than the other one including Ruth's and Fleming's.

If you are getting a strip or rib eye I would say Mr. Johns.

Best “old school” joint is Mr Johns imo. Charlie’s and Crescent City are ok if you’re really nostalgic and don’t care as much about quality

Dickie Brennan’s, Chophouse, Desi Vega are your more posh, modern steakhouses

If you’re asking about filet I don’t think Doris is the place for you

La Boca has more obscure cuts and does a good job overall. It’s billed as Argentinian

Fogo de Chao for all you can eat

I like Delmonico’s. La Boca is a favorite of the board.

Is Crescent that bad? We have reservations for a family event. Had Dickie Brennan's but someone in the group raved about Crescent so we switched

It's not bad, but there are better spots. It's better than Charlie's imo.

It's got a cool old school vibe, and there is an private room upstairs that is good for a big group.

Doris has fantastic sides. Their beef is excellent, but the sides set it apart imo. Mr. John’s may prepare their steaks a hair better. the others mentioned are solid. Depends on what you like.

As others said, Doris and Mr Johns. If the Mrs wants seafood, Peche has an excellent ribeye also.

Thanks everyone, we are going to head to Mr. Johns. Was able to get a table at 5:30.

Looks like we will do Doris next time- both places looked right up our alley

Mr. Johns or Doris IMO, but like people have said, 2 totally different experiences.
