This I agree with. The Shed is absolutely horrible. I don't understand why people rave about this place.

That looks great. Thank you. One thing I couldn’t find is how far off the interstate it was.

No I have been there many times as well as buckees from Alabama to west Texas and that one is great for gas and bathrooms and very redneck food but not anything special. IMO. It needs a local menu.

That Godfather’s in Kenner makes up their own prices. They are way higher than other locations.

We did Felix's fish camp right past Mobile last time we drove that way, on the water, enjoyed it.

There was another place directly across the road that looked good too.

*Forgot to mention, after lunch we went to the USS Alabama museum which is right by the restaurant, very cool.

My two pesos:
- Other than usual array of chains, how much is on I-10 through MS? Serious question.
- The MS Gulf Coast is not that far off I-10 and would open up a lot of options., e.g., Ocean Spring. Too far off I-10?
- Slidell has several viable options (Southside, Kenneys, Pecks, etc).
- Likewise, Mobile has a lot of options if you can hold off until then.

Have a safe and great trip my friend.

Great points.
Iirc, for a quick lunch wouldn’t the MS coast be a bit far? Regardless, there’s some options not all the way to the coast, like through that old GP downtown area is a pretty awesome Indian buffet.
ETA l: Can’t find the place on a map app now. Anyone remember? It was in an older strip mall, in the corner of an inverted L; if you’re heading north it was on the left. Some discount places around. Had a super cool 80s esque courtyard thing.

I find almost all Mississippi BBQ to be way too sweet for human consumption, although I do like Strick's in Hattiesburg.

Is the Blow Fly Inn still open in Gulfport?

They put sugar in the side vegetables in Mississippi. I don't get it.

It's a little bit off the interstate, but Tavi's in Gulfport was great last weekend. I was extremely impressed.

It closed for years, but it seems like it has new ownership. They rebranded a little bit. I saw a sign and a brand new deck off the back driving up Cowan a few weeks ago. Haven’t been; it’s now called Blowfly Bar and Grill.

It would be out of the way but worth it. J. Rodgers BBQ and Soul Food in Saraland used to be awesome. Stopped there for lunch, was AYCE back then. BBQ, Ribs, Wings, rutabagas, greens with whole jalapeño cooked in them until tender enough to just mash them with your fork and stir them in.

Bacchus in Pass Christian, get the cajun club and sit on the large patio overlooking the GOA. <-- best view

Fayards Marathon on Washington (609?) in Ocean Springs for carryout poboys, call ahead and order from BSL or Gulfport on the road. <-- fastest option if you call ahead

Cornerstone Bar in Gautier, get the hoagie po boy.

Jack's Bar in Pascagoula, everythign is really good. Looks like a dive bar, significantly above average food (not necessarily bar food either). <--- best food

Callaghas Irish Bar in Mobile, get the reuben or irish dip.

The Waterfront in Daphne, $1m view and great bar food over the bay.

Damn, well. Looks like a cool place from the pics, shame they don’t do better with the grub.

It's fairly expensive and nasty food served on Styrofoam plates and plastic forks. You get to enjoy all of this on a dirty picnic table inside of a 100 degree shed.

Once was enough for me!

The Shed does not have great bbq by any means. Largely impart to the diabeetus inducing bbq sauce they use. But it is not as terrible as people make it out to be. It's just an easy place to hate due to the owners, the food network show and the failed Baton Rouge place. In reality, it is a pretty good choice to stop if you're someone like the OP. Whose criteria was an easy to access lunch spot off of I-10 in Mississippi. It has easy ingress/egress to the interstate, a big sprawling space you can stretch your legs, decent people watching and a pretty fair beer selection.

They washed out of Destin pretty quick. Bad BBQ and counter-service only.

Yes it has reopened but I thought it may be a little too far off the interstate for a "quick" lunch.

If that's not considered too far I'd recommend Lil' Ray's on Courthouse in Gulfport for a great lunch.
