Nola just needs to push out their new shite to the masses.
004 is really good.

I respect your opinion but this ain't the Pacific NW.
That's why I only said quadruple.
People are hoarding GitM. People are hoping to get a can or two of G&G. You have to figure that if you got a dozen more breweries, 8 of them would suck, 2 of them would be pretty good, and 2 of them would be great. You would probably wonder how the 8 that suck manage to survive, but they will. Also, there are many, many people out there that will become craft beer drinkers when a brewery opens 3 blocks from their house that has a cool atmosphere. The craft beer market is expanding, and that's why InBev is buying craft breweries.
I could name 40 breweries in Portland that suck and I don't know how they make it. But they do. I scratch my head, because I honestly don't know how the frick they stay in business. Why would you go to Coalition when you can go to Culmination a couple of blocks away? Why would you go to Lucky Lab when you can go to Breakside? Why would you go to Backpedal when you have 3 world class breweries within 2 blocks? Different strokes for different folks, is all I got to explain it.

Second Line beer is not the best in town but the tap room setup is really great on a nice day. It's a beer garden style courtyard with a food truck. Very kid friendly.
Thank you, and that's probably the answer to my rhetorical question. A brewery sets up that has a nice atmosphere, and people close by will support it. If they brew world class beer, then people will drive from all over to support it. You can probably put 10 more Second Lines, a few more Courtyards, and a couple of Parish/GR breweries in the city.
You're right, I know I don't know the market down there, but it's happening all over the country, not just in the PNW. NOLA is different, but it's not that different. Craft beer is not like whiskey or cigars. People really, really connect with and like to support local breweries. It's more like a restaurant. They prefer to support the local guy over the chain that's based elsewhere. NOLA hasn't really tapped into that, yet.

I'm not sure Nola could support the numbers 5-8 more breweries sure, but more than that we will see some closing

Yea NOLA brewery is terrible

Nothing wrong with a shitty brewery closing, and maybe your numbers - doubling not quadrupling - are right, but I think you'd be surprised, especially if it happens over a period of 5-6 years. And maybe quadrupling would cause some to close, but that's OK, as generally, it is the weakest that will close.
I would take a tradeoff of a good brewery opening and forcing a bad one to close. There are 10 breweries slated to open in Portland this year. Maybe one or two will close. WTF are we going to do with 10 more breweries? Hopefully, enjoy them, as a few of them may be worth driving to. Other than the new Great Notion production facility, most of these will be neighborhood brewpubs. Literally, a restaurant that brews it's own beer. That is exactly what Great Notion started as, last year, for what it's worth...
BTW, one of the new breweries is opening up about 3/4 of a mile from my house and the brewer was the head brewer at Logsdon. He's gonna be doing a bunch of American Wild Ales, and I'm pretty psyched about it.

They need to can 004 and swap NOLA Brown for Prytania Porter
Posted on 5/5/17 at 7:07 pm to NIH
Courtyard
Nola
Urban South
Second Line
In that order. However the gap between 1 and 2 is pretty big.

Agreed - will be interesting to see when they decide shake up their public offerings. I'm pleased so far they are trying new things but it needs to hit stores soon.

I think Urban South's Holy Roller is the best beer brewed in New Orleans.

Irish Channel Stout is one of my favorite local offerings, hope they keep it.

Holly Roller is by far the best year round IPA available from LA.
I did say IPA, not APA.

I'm not a NOLA beer expert, but I will say that there was a beer that impressed me from Courtyard when I was in town a few weeks ago. For the life of me can't remember the name, but it was a solid IPA.

Is that what the people on the internet told you ? That wasn't the case for me.

You ever wonder why Jazzfest highlights local music, art, food, but not local craft beer ? It's all politics.
Every time NOLA drains a tank of Rebirth they cut a check to the Roots of Music, it's a great cause. Tipitina's, only a few blocks from NOLA brewery, is also a big contributor to the Roots of music program. The folks at the brewery have a great relationship with the people at Tip's. So why does Tip's not have Rebirth on tap ? Politics.
Remember this is the city that limits food truck permits because they don't want to take business away from the restaurants. Saying New Orleans is going to have 40 plus breweries in town, I just don't see it. Even if politics wasn't involved I still just don't see it. This isn't Portland, we already have a drinking culture and there is lots to do here outside of breweries.
I've seen you post many times that you think it's a great idea to open a brewery in LA and I just don't agree with that. Why come to a backasswards state that last in everything to open up a business ? Seems to me the outsiders that do so do it because of their love for the city. Me I'd invest my money somewhere that is more inviting and business friendly. Not a place where it's who you know not what you know. You've read on here all the bullshite that they have been putting breweries through down here. Distribution doesn't like when they are cut out. Why do you think all the recent bullshite that is going on with how breweries market themselves and what type of events they can and cannot have on site is happening? I wouldn't blame Parish if they moved to Texas. All the oil and gas companies did it for the same reason.

I think Urban South is the best in the city.
For my birthday I did a brewery crawl hit second line, wayward owl, courtyard, Urban South and Nola
Was really fun and I got shithouses.
URban south was my favorite and Waywaed Owl my least favorite. But I am really into IPAs

Nothing great but the Falcon was decent. They only had 8 beers when I went
I tried that on monday and it was really bad, ddh version was bad too. I had high hopes, cool little spot though.
1-courtyard
2- nola
After that, its all meh to me. I havent had a single great beer from urban south, not a big fan of holy roller.

Courtyard is the best for me, followed by Nola.
For all the cool stuff Nola does with sours, most appear to be riffs on the same one-note, quick-sour base beer. Not very interesting to me. Hearing that the hoppy game is improving, but haven't had a chance to try anything recently.

And some are real enamel-rippers.

Neither am I, but the DDH version is actually a good beer.
