Best Baton Rouge Diner?

My family enjoys Dearman's and it is pretty easy on the wallet. Cheaper than going to Cane's or Chick-fil-a and I think it might even be cheaper than McDonalds.
So does the Original Dearman's soda shop have some competition we should check out?

Louie's wins the thread basically by default because it's really the only thing close to one in BR, outside of like a Waffle House.

Spoke and Hub is a newish spot on Government St. that markets themselves as a diner. It's a little more expensive than Dearman's for sure but they have some great food and drinks.

Not sure you're talking about the Dearman's I know about in Bocage b/c that place isn't a diner and it certainly isn't cheaper than McD's or Canes.
I don't know I would consider any place in BR a diner other than Louies, which would get my vote regardless.

It’s been closed for a long time but we always enjoyed Russels grille. It was a 24 hr place that was a good stop at midnight when nothing else was open .

Is there a quality Waffle House location in BR? All Waffle House are not created equal. All are good, some are great. A great Waffle House is tough to beat.

Long bar with lots of seating.
Booths for sitting.
Short order menu that is mostly cooked on a single griddle.
What is missing from making Dearman's a diner?
It is most certainly cheaper than a night at Cane's or Chickfila. I am looking at $40 minimum to go through the canes line and our bill never exceeds $40 for 4 at Dearman's. Do I need to start calling Dearman's something else?

Real diners are usually 24/7 operations, and apparently they were in the past, but I'm not going to be that strict with the definition of a diner. However, I am going to call them out on not even being open late anymore. Perhaps they changed their hours for between semesters and are open 24/7 during semesters?
Louie's is a legit diner. But it's not a cafe.
And I'm not sure it was a cafe when it opened in 1941.
Probably should have been named Louie's Diner from the beginning.
Of course, they could rename it Louie's Cafe Diner, but that would be stupid.

Dearman’s is certainly not cheaper than McDonalds. I wouldn’t classify that place as cheap at all.

This thread is what's wrong with America. You MFers can't even agree on what a Diner is. How the hell will we unite a divided country?
So that said, if you want breakfast, coffee, lunch you have plenty options in Baton Rouge. You have several IHOPS and a LOT of Waffle Houses but a few local joints too. Just don't call em a diner!

Franks on Airline, BR and P'ville

Another Broken Egg Cafe

Waffle House
That definitely new hours for them. Up until last year they were open all day and night. Maybe it’s another staff shortage issue.
