Thursday or Friday night is still Rock Paper Scissors night at Palms. They also do heads or tails.

My friends and I convinced the bartender once to let us gamble the whole fifth of Jack at the bar on heads or tails (with the marked up bar price as the cost). We lost.

Loved that place. Great burger and chhese fries as well.

One night.. mid 80s... .. a gaggle of us were there.. tulane still in session.. LSU had disbanded for christmas break...

some drunk girl is throwing empty beer bottles against the wall.. some breaking some not.. one breaks glass flies all over one of our group... cut him a bit near eyes... he shakes it off and tries to politely stop her from throwing another one.... she goes off on him.. some guy with her comes up and gets in my friends face...pushes him down into broken glass.... then kicked him..

I grabbed said fella and told him to stop and I would let him go - bouncers came - 2 knew me - asked very nicely for me to let guy go.. I did.. as soon as I did he clocked me... bouncer grabbed him drug him outside and told him.. "good luck - run fast" he laughed... we all left.. he was waiting out side.. along with drunk girlfriend and several of his friends....

all of our group was laughing at the fun they knew was going to ensue....

I come out - and friend who now had cuts all over his hands and face.. from broken glass...

guy then tells me - he is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and that it would be best if "you guys all just went home"... I calmly said.. you should get someone to call an ambulance because you are going to need one.... his group of friends all laughed - there were about a dozen of them and 5 of us...

his friends were egging him on.... he came up got in my face - bouncer that knew him by name - yelled at him and said - he was going to be sorry....

he tried a side kick to start things off - I grabbed his leg at the foot and ankle twisted him around snap kicked him in the balls then side kicked him in the leg at the knee, then threw him into the gutter - which if you knew ATIIs in the 80s that gutter was nasty.... the drunk girl that started all this.. was yelling at his friends to help him...... nobody did....they left - quickly....

only tussle I ever had there... every other time.. was a grande old time...

Thank God I was lucky enough to avoid drugs and alcohol.

You're old enough to remember 4141..

yes.... but never really liked the place...

ATIIs, MS Maes, Hoffbrau, Cooter Browns and some dive that for the life of me I can't remember the name of now...

and the guy that was selling the point shaving scandal t shirts.. was arguably the craziest person I ever came in contact with...

Back in the 90’s, Paul Allen would drink alone at home, and dream of 3-ways with Tom and Mary Ann.

He would role play being Chef Andrea... white jacket and all, then sit by his coffee table and flambé the crack pipe. Then the “yellow” phone would ring, and it would be Paul’s mother, saying, “Son, get your arse in bed! You know you have to cut grass at Metairie Country Club in the morning!”

Wasn't there an original location of AT that was much smaller?!? Or, are my brain cells so warped that I'm not recalling correctly?!?

The original was on Coliseum or Perrier on the other side of the Park between Broadway and Audubon St. in the middle of the block. Gus and his wife(name escapes me) bought the old Webster Inn and basically moved to the new location at 6100 Magazine. Gus eventually sold it to a DKE named George Willaims. That's when it really got over the top.

Yes it was off Broadway near River Road across from Uptown Square..

I had a friend in 4141 one night when a speaker fell of the wall and hit him in the head. Knocked him senseless for a bit..The managers were freaking out and offered a single bar tab (just him) for life. He took it. Not sure how long he drank off of that. His nickname was speakerhead...I know.. how original..

That's it! Thanks. I almost destroyed my liver in that place, as well as my right hand. Was in there one night, and a buddy and I clinked (clashed) glasses in a toast. Mine broke and sent a sizeable shard in my hand between my thumb and index finger. Just went to the bathroom, removed the shard and wrapped the area in paper towels. Went back to the bar and continued to drink until the bartender made me leave because I was bleeding all over the bar top.
