The thought of you frying up a $800 fish and dipping it in tartar sauce is pretty hilarious. Louisiana

Personally IWNEI...large coy are valuable.

This. My local pond store sells 12" Koi for 50 to 60 bucks. These are by no means championship koi. If these people had any decent koi they could be hundreds of dollars.

Championship koi can go easy 5 up to 6 figures. These type koi aren't in some random pond in LA though. But just to give the op an idea of how dumb it is to eat them.

I keep getting told from poeple that have koi ponds that the fish are worth $$$. Problem is that they can't seem to actually find anyone outside of Japan that are willing to pay shite for a big goldfish.

A quick Google of "koi theft" turned up many stories like this one:

Two guys steal koi from office park in broad daylight

quote:

They pulled off the heist in broad daylight, under the gaze of security guards and office workers who enjoyed watching the ornamental carp swim around during their lunch breaks.

The total Herndon haul is worth at least $20,000

It's a great way to make lots of money without engaging in violence, so the penalties aren't nearly so harsh if you get caught.

And yes, I'm also at the dumbass who fried up a fish that probably would have sold for several hundred.

This should be a /r/tifu post.
