You are pitiful. The irony is way too strong here. Are you blinded by some weird hatred, or what? Why would someone cry so much about a favorite old restaurant possibly reopening with a totally new owner, and totally new staff? Why are you so dead set against a group of Baton Rouge patrons being able to go eat a pizza that they may like? Why do you care so much that you want a place to fail before it even reopens?

You realize this is all in your head, right? Please link to where I’ve ever wished ill on either the new ownership or this venture.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

My guess it’s not going to happen. I suspect there is a legal dispute over the IP. The business was for sale for 4 million. Several years later the building sold for 1.2 million. The new owners started promoting that they would reopen even posting on their instagram page a round the world pizza from their test kitchen in an original FDL box. They bought the real estate, but not the IP.

i just reread this post (again).

Are you suggesting the new Fleur de Lis wasn't going to have the same pizza?

If the pizza isn't the same, this entire conversation is moot. It will fail.

It seems a lot of people think BR wants to go back to the dirty, pink building.

I think BR just wants that pizza. Put the pizza in a gas station and it will sell.

Put decent but different pizza in the pink building, it will fail.

I think people enjoy the nostalgia of an old building. If it can be saved, it would be worth trying. Short of that, I would try to keep the front visage with the glass block and stucco. I don't think people really want a strip mall feeling Fleur de Lis.

What I would encourage them to try in the meantime, though, is getting the pizza made at pop ups like at Pelican to Mars, in a food truck, or even just having a to-go only option with a trailer at the location. They could partner with Cypress Coast next door and offer pizza with beer.

IMO a new "retro style" building with pink stucco and a neon sign would be more than enough to give it a nostalgic feel.

I completely agree. The only way I would eat FDL is if somebody else picked it up. I loved the pizza, but that building was so gross.

That's what I'm saying.

If the investors thought the money was in the brand and the nostalgia vs. the actual pizza, they made a bad decision.

The experience was actually poor. It was hard to find a seat...had to seat yourself. Very little room. God forbid you had 6 or 8 people. Dirty. Bathrooms were small, and on top of the dining. Rats.

But, you could sell the pizza in an old Pizza Hut building and it would sell.

Likewise, if you created an updated, clean replica of FDL that didn't have the same pizza, it would fail.

Keep the facade, but clean it up. Fix the janky glass blocks, and get all the neon working in order - it's as much the calling card of the place as anything. Rebuild everything else, with some nods to the old place - could probably reconstruct the bar area as it has always been.

Keep the same basic recipe and style (it's a rather unique pizza for the region and I always thought, when done right, hit quite well), but make a bit of an effort in ensuring the quality of ingredients and consistency in preparation (personally, the canned mushrooms were the one thing I didn't love about the Round the World, and would have love to see them sub fresh there, but it's not a deal killer).

You'd print money, I'd think.

If I were them, I'd shoot for an exact match.

FWIW, I never felt the old place was inconsistent.

Add pizzas? sure

But, you have to be able to reproduce (not try and improve) the round the world, imo.

absolutely. If not they would have to call it something else. I do miss that pizza. Not a pizza like it or similar to it, that exact thing

Your questions/comments don’t make sense. I’ll simplify it for you.

Had the buyer bought the business as an ongoing concern, nothing would have changed. The property would have transferred without interruption and without any requirement to make any improvements.

The seller made a fatal mistake by not selling the business while it was in operation. They sold it while closed which opened up new regulations.

Had the seller sold it as a business while operating then all of this would not have happened.

You didn’t simplify anything. You’re still not making any sense. How was this a “fatal mistake” by the seller? What “new regulations” were opened up? What is the actual disagreement? For someone who is so successful, you sure are shite at explaining yourself in writing.

I'm sure there's merit to what you posted, but it had nothing to do with the question I asked and didn't address the remainder of my post at all.

The nostalgia of this place is so weird to me. It was by far the worst pizza ive ever eaten in my life. Why do people want it back?

I just disagree.

The nostalgia of the place, IMO, isn't overly important.

The pizza was great. I miss it.

I mostly agree, particularly about nostalgia driving the interest. If it opens with the original pizza, I think most Baton Rougeans will insist they changed something and “it’s just not the same.” They’ll never catch the dragon because their memories are a tainted ingredient that cannot be replicated.

I only tried it once. I wouldn’t say it was the worst I have ever had. But if there were only 2 categories of pizza with the categories being good pizza and bad pizza, it would fall into the bad pizza category.

But I’ve become a pizza snob so 80-90% of the pizza I have tried over the past 5 years falls under the bad pizza category.

the point he is making is that had the business been sold with the building, the new owners could have simply continued operating as is without the need for updating the building whether it needed it or not. Whether that would have been a smart investment is another question entirely. Remember it was originally listed at $4MM for both.

Once an address is scheduled for renovation it must be brought up to code, all of it and everywhere. And that’s the problem at the moment

Believe me when I say not to worry about that part of the equation.

More than you. Why would I tell you? I don’t know you and if I did I wouldn’t post it publicly.
