My guess it’s not going to happen. I suspect there is a legal dispute over the IP. The business was for sale for 4 million. Several years later the building sold for 1.2 million. The new owners started promoting that they would reopen even posting on their instagram page a round the world pizza from their test kitchen in an original FDL box. They bought the real estate, but not the IP.

What is the IP? Pardon my ignorance please.

Spot on.
I tried to buy the business about 15 years ago. Rodney Cary (owner of Southdown’s lounge, now deceased and friend of Pam) told me she wanted to get out and retire. He said that she was looking to get 2 million. I called 3 times before I could finally talk to her. Offered her 2.5 million and was basically told to go you know where. So now it sits in limbo. Had I bought it it would still be operating as it was since the 40’s unchanged.

What is Duran doing these days?

Selling the IP of a long defunct lone operation is wild. Just what recipes praytell are they selling? They used canned mushrooms for shits sake. The ROI at those numbers is laughable.

I would assume this is the same woman who told me she wouldn't bring my children the small plates so they wouldn't have to eat off the table, but could offer a few extra napkins.
It would be no surprise if the person who ran off so many loyal customers is also the same person who will prevent anything from moving forward.

Not really. The name recognition and goodwill built over decades is the primary value, not the pizza. Sell the same exact pizza at the same exact location, but call it by any other name, and the business will fail.
The building is a dump. The pizza isn’t remarkable. Nostalgia and tradition is the main ingredient. Without that name (IP) you have a mediocre pizza restaurant that the market will quickly forget about

I absolutely agree the name carries value. And frankly you could serve much better or the exact same pizza under a different umbrella and still fail in that location. Nostalgia is finicky, and there isn't enough square footage imo to return such a high asking price. That being said, if someone pulls it off, I will be there. For true nostalgia they will need a variance to allow smoking inside:)

I always liked the pizza.
As did many others, as the line was out the door most nights.

Don’t let the haters here get to you. They are a very small and very, very vocal minority, but are a huge whiney, butt hurt majority in this little echo chamber.
That place didn’t close for lack of business. As you said the line was out the door most nights and there was a long wait for take out. The old lady just was tired of it and wanted out.

didn't someone involved with bringing it back pass away
maybe that's part of the reason
sadly I don't see it returning

I can't ever remember there being a line....maybe when i was a kid in the 80's.
Always loved the pizza and hated the employees. Take out was never as good as eating in though...the box just ruined it.

Sorry, but have to disagree with you.
A dumpy place selling mediocre pizza from the original owner recipes is going to fail.
Nostalgia only goes so far. You can sell great pizza and make money in a dumpy establishment, but most people won’t come back more than once-twice for nostalgia sake if the food sucks.
Why would anyone want to pay for the original intellectual property?
It’s pizza. It’s not rocket science. Make a great product at a great price and customers will come.

Build Section 8 apartments on the vacant property. Sell discount liquor and tobacco in the shell of the old building. Give it a real Baton Rouge tribute.

Sorry you were too poor to buy it. I hope things are going better for you now.
