Got black eye peas cooking right now so I will have that out of the way, but plan on cooking a corned beef and some smothered cabbage for the traditional New Year's Day meal like I've eaten for as long as I can remember.

I'll probably make some jalapeno/cheese cornbread to go with it.

So, what do the many fine cooks on this site plan for their NYD meal?

No.

I’m doing a grilled skirt steak and mushroom risotto because that’s what I have on hand and I don’t want to go to the store.

That sounds like a good plan, especially not having to hit a store to make it.

The wife decided to head to the store before the LSU game on Saturday to get the stuff for the meal, so she got no argument from me. Saved me the trouble.

I made a ham stock with a meaty smoked ham bone right after Christmas and froze it. Soaked blackeyed peas last night. Melted some bacon grease and sauteed some onions, bell pepper, jalapeno pepper and garlic. Added the stock and the beans and simmered low and slow for less than an hour. For whatever reason, these peas are delicious. I want to eat them all now!

Having pork roast, gravy, mustard greens and cornbread with the peas for New Year's Day.

Cabbage with pork chops and sausage
Black eyed peas with the ham hock from Christmas
and a Huge chicken and sausage gumbo
Corn bread may sneak in there as well

No one in my house will eat "traditional" NYD food.

We do something relative yet different every year. Thus year it's deep fried BEPs & Grilled cabbage wedges with buttermilk ranch, blue cheese, & bacon.

In.

Smoked a pork shoulder on Christmas. Froze the leftovers we'll have along with black eyed peas, cabbage, corn bread and fried potatoes on New Year's day

Made a big-arse pot of gumbo and some potato salad last night. Wanted to let the flavors meld and it'll be ready to reheat tonight

That's how I like a few things when I eat, like gumbo, meatballs with red gravy and red beans especially.

Somehow they always taste better the next day.
