Anybody ever watch cooking videos and get shocked at the poor handling of food?

Within 36 seconds, he handles raw chicken (with a glove of course) and then picks up cooked chicken...AND PUTS IT BACK

Same guy. Same thing. In this one, he even comments about how he's wearing a glove (I imagine in repose to the last video), then touches chicken, and then touches instruments with the glove hand. Then touches the instruments with his "clean" hand.

I love when they taste the food with a spoon and then put the spoon back in the pot. It happens all the time on these cooking competition shows.

This is a big one. There should be a bucket full of spoons by each station by the end of each segment.

On shows like Chopped, if they're having a round that involves alcohol they always try to get at least one contestant to take a swig. They always just drink right out of the bottle before using it during the competition, which is surprising if it's real.

when watching chopped, i'm always shocked at the amount of sweat pouring off of contestants while handling food. you know that crap ends up in the food somehow.

This probably should bother me more than it does. I don’t mind it though.

If it's in something that is near boiling, I guess anything would be killed off from the heat. Cold food would bother me. Wouldn't eat it.

I am more bothered with cross-contamination.

i agree and give the benefit of the doubt, but in the videos i posted there are no cuts and there is 100% cross contamination

I'm always disgusted when I see people handle raw meat and not wash their hands afterward and then start touching other things in the kitchen.

Not even once. I just don't care. This issue is over blown. I am more sloppy than anyone you will ever see in a video. Never been sick.

When I cook I always have a hand that doesnt touch uncooked meat and one that does.

Left hand to handle the raw meat, right hand to handle spices, knife, other utensils

I do this but still end up having to wash my hands multiple times.
The fresh cracked S&P always mess this up for me.

If you're appalled at what happens on camera just think about what probably goes on behind camera at a lot of these restaurants.

Or try not think about it I should say. Would probably never eat out again.

Back in the late 70's I worked for a company that made and installed commercial kitchen hoods, exhaust and fresh air systems, backsplashes, fire suppression and whole wall panels around kitchen equipment.

What I saw in some of N.O. best restaurants would make you think twice about eating there. One of the worst was a popular black owned restaurant on Orleans Ave.

We had to actually cut out the equipment since grease had built up between fryers to the point you couldn't move them. The steam cleaner we had hired to come in and clean the place took one look and said "Hell no".

When I went up in the attic to see how the old system was run to carry grease and the kitchen exhaust out of the building, I saw there was none in place. The kitchen hood simply dumped all that crap in the attic. The rafters were covered in grease that had accumulated up there over the years.

I had friends on the fire department and made it a point to tell them that if that building ever caught fire, stay out of the attic and off the roof.

Popular French Quarter restaurants were always dealing with rats and other vermin in and around their kitchen. The recent coverage on the news about the rats in the Quarter coming out and being more bold due to lack of people generating trash in the form of food waste really showed how bad rats are down there.
