It will have to take afoot regionally in Louisiana for a quicker result (i.e., New Orleans/Baton Rouge). Otherwise, it is decades away from happening statewide.

The northern part of the state will be the last to go. Even in "liberal" Lafayette, the Catholic make-up opposes it, so it has little chance.

Medicinal is legal here. You just can't buy, sell, possess, or grow it

Sort of. It's only the oil form.

It should be legal and taxed with all proceeds going towards higher education (not trying to be funny).

Not only does weed need to be legal, all other drugs need to be at least decriminalized.

All for it but won't happen with all the power that the Newell Normand type sheriffs have. They don't want to lose that prison money.

In favor of medicinal. On the fence about recreational use because I don't want it in the hands of children and I see that possibility as an unintended consequence that may occur.

I believe the way to handle that is similar to alcohol or tobacco. Don't sell to minors, penalize businesses that do, make it a crime to provide MJ to minors (contributing to deliquency) and basically just make it clear that it's not okay for children to use without someone risking significant fine.

It should start out as something used to treat PTSD. That would be very successful IMHO. It would also prevent the large drug addiction problem facing veterans

Legalize it

How do we make it happen some time soon?

I have no idea why it isn't legal now. We allow the sale of alcohol and tobacco, 2 things are that 100% known to be addictive to some and 100% known to cause health issues with long term chronic use. Yet as long as somebody is 18 it's all good. What makes weed so dangerous that it must be criminalized?

I used to smoke it regularly but didn't begin until college. With all the evidence it damages the development of the brain in adolescents I would want significant jail time for anyone providing it to a juvenile.

You can't. The Sheriff's lobby has tremendous power and deep pockets.

I am in favor of making marijuana legal and decriminalizing usage of everything else. If people have drug use issues, we should help them and not throw them in jail.

We need to reconfigure our scale of crime and punishment. We have way too many people in jail for non violent offenses. In reality, if you aren't a violent offender, you should not go to jail. We are just making our problems worse.

Legalize it. No tax on home grown, just like tomatoes or watermelons grown at home.

Think how much less crowded court dockets would be, and how much more time cops would have to work real crimes.
