I feel like CBK is about to clean house retaining only Raymond. We shall see.

"very good" is really a stretch. Maybe not as awful as we originally thought.

again Kelly has a great nose for hiring DCs, if he wants to keep Daronte cool.

really if you look at the offenses we played down the stretch, its not that impressive. Bama we thought was but they've clearly struggled on that side of the ball down the stretch.

He was not a good hire. It took him half the season to figure it out because he had no experience. O hire two coordinators that had no experience. I think Jones had 1 year at very low level competition as a DC. LSU should never hire someone who is learning on the job.

I feel like this is an exaggeration. He was certainly better than Peetz, but REALLY GOOD?

We were good the last 4.

But there is no explanation that could be given to excuse Daronte for the scheme he rolled out in the first half of the season.

If you say Orgeron demanded it, then frick Daronte for not being willing to take a stand.

Or…who won’t accept running the same exact defense for 8 games

Or…who can scheme to his talent.

Go tell your boss you’re doing something different than what he hired you to do and then see how long your employed.

The shite lord just didn’t realize what he had and tried to get him to run da miami defense or something

I do not think this is a hot take but a statement of fact. O admitted that he did not know what a zero blitz was they had to show him.

D.Jones wasn’t an ace hire because we totally sucked balls on defense against Kentucky, UCLA, and couldn’t stop Bo Nix among others.

Clearly he improved but the season overall wasn’t great defensively. I’d expect Brian Kelly to have other options than just retain this staff. But I’m sure he will interview him and evaluate it.

And then O got the call from Lane plus he got fired, and he got out of Daronte Jones' way.

Jones may very well be a good DC some day or even now, but it came at LSU's expense for half a season while he learned his way around the role.

Y'all act like it's Jones' fault that he had to "learn on the job" when O is the one who hired him to the position of defensive coordinator and then tried to hamstring Jones by having his hand in the defense. What was he supposed to do, turn down the greatest opportunity at advancement he's ever gotten because he wasn't a seasoned veteran?

Of course he had to learn on the job, he's never had to lead a defense and call the plays by himself like that. He didn't do anything wrong by accepting the opportunity given to him, even if he knew he was a little green. Plus every decent coordinator out there HAD to know that O was on the hot seat and wouldn't be around much longer, whoever accepted the job knew that they had a limited timespan to do what they could with the scraps left.

Jones should really be celebrated and appreciated around here for coming to a shitty situation when no one else would and giving it his best shot. It took him about half the season to figure out how to slow down the SEC offenses and give his team a shot at winning, but for a rookie coordinator in the toughest division, in the toughest conference in the country, that's pretty damn elite.

There's a lot of seasoned DCs out there that haven't figured out the SEC offenses and couldn't figure them out with years of experience, see Chavis for example. The fact that it took a brand new coordinator 6-8 games is a great sign of his future.

Dude got paid over a million dollars with no real DC experience, it was a no brainer for him.

He did admirable against some bad offenses down the stretch (Ole Miss still pantsed him). The jury is really still out on whether or not he’s good. Right now he’s being celebrated because he exceeded very low expectations after Bo and a slow start.

They need to stick with the 3-4 scheme from Dave Amanda and need to stick with the staff they have but they can go with will muschamp.

The topic was "Daronte was a very good hire by O". I disagreed because O hired someone who had to "learn on the job". I did not blame Jones; I blamed O who is the subject of the topic. Read my post again.
