I know in my town you have to live more than 2 miles from the school. If you live closer then no bus for you.

I often waited to be picked up tho. Different times. You could sit outside the school till dark without concern. I’d be worried about my kid today.

When I was growing up almost nobody's mom worked either. I didn't know anyone who went to daycare either.

We have had problems with my son’s bus being 30+ minutes late or worse because they reshuffled the route and didn’t give themselves enough time to pick up the additional kid on the route.

Carpool is one thing, but there are several cars that line up outside our kids’ school at least 1-2 hours early every single day.

Usually it’s the same car in front of the line sitting there 2 hours prior to dismissal everyday. That’s insane to me.

My wife did when our kids were in elementary school. Our stop was the last stop for the bus and it would sometimes be an hour after school until they got home. She worked from home and had the time to spare.

Last week I had to drop off some medicine to my middle schooler around 1 pm.

There were four cars parked with engines running in the area where carpool line drop off / pick up is.

I asked the office secretary, uhm, are those four cars waiting for carpool?

She laughed and said yes... it's four grandparents they get there every day around 1230 and just sit in their cars, read a book, take a nap, etc. They have nothing better to do so they wait to be the first ones in line for pickup.

There's been a very few times I had to pick my kid up (she either takes the bus home or has after-school activities). I've gotten there right as dismissal time... and still had her picked up 15 min after the pick-up started.

For public schools? Probably. You can't have Braxton hanging out with Braeylene or Shalamaquantze. Something might happen to hurt his chances at a baseball scholarship and then what was the use of all that travel ball?

And they'll gladly bitch about traffic.

Private schools don't have busses.

We have a group of parents (and I’m at a high school) that start lining up in the parking lot at about 11:00 am. School gets out at 2:20 pm.

I asked one of them one day why they come out so early and they said, “Well (insert kid’s name) just doesn’t like to ride the bus, so here I am”.

frick. All. That.

Some parents think their kids are too good for a bus.

These are the parents who usually frick up their kids by keeping them soft.

I have noticed people will sit in line in their cars ANYWHERE for long periods of time. It blows my mind the amount of cars lined up at Starbucks or any other coffee shop, carpool lanes at schools, fast food drive thrus, etc. You never saw this back in the 90s or prior. People would give up after about 10 minutes and leave. Then it hit me....

smartphones. People have way too much time and they view it as an opportunity to scroll through their social media apps for 15 minutes+ and not feel guilty about it as wasted time.

My elementary and middle school kids ride the bus. They love it. Don't be a helicopter parent.

Now do it for a kid spending over an hour on the bus twice a day every school day

My son graduated in 2020, my daughter is in 8th grade. Neither ever rode the bus. I’d have been fine with them riding the bus. But my wife was adamant they never would ride the bus. Considering she’s the one doing car line about 99.99% of the time I figured bus riding was not a hill to die on.

We don’t send our kids to school with the poors that’s why… and you always show up at the end of carpool so you don’t have to wait

But they weren’t about to let me go home alone when I was in grammar school.

Split bus.

Happens all the time to us. Elementary school has 9 bus routes. They have 9 drivers for those routes. Because no one wants to work anymore... they have no extras, no subs, etc. So if a driver calls in sick or whatever, now they have to use 8 drivers for 9 busses. So they split up the bus routes. Usually results in the kid getting home later than normal.

For some reason it happens a lot more with after school than before school.

I first learned what masturbation was on a bus.

Went home and in the back bathroom and grabbed a jar of what looked like petroleum jelly.

Put a glob on my hand and started pulling and tugging at it. Then it started to get tingly, almost burning. I couldn’t make it stop. It was awful, I tried to wash it off, wipe it off, blow it off, only made it worse.

I couldn’t understand why on earth anyone would want to do this thing.

I had grabbed Vicks Vapor Rub.
