Jack Bech vs Arik Gilbert

If their level of talent is exactly the same (and I don't know that it is) I would rather have Bech than 10 Gilberts....one would be a cohesive influence on the team and the other a divisive presence.....

Bech is actually playing. Gilbert? Who knows?

Gilbert

One play Bech ran 30 yards down the field, full speed just to throw a block for another WR. Can’t imagine Gilbert doing that.

First off I don’t want to shite on Gilbert he obviously has some real issues. With that said Bech was probably always going to be better long term because he has to work harder. By that I mean he probably didn’t have the natural talent Gilbert had but what did that get Gilbert besides a seat on the couch. A product of his environment being told how great he was, nothing was ever his fault. Bought his own hype.
Moral of the story don’t be lazy and live off talent, Work Hard.

Gilbert’s level of talent is twice Bech’s. Gilbert is a monster WR who is big enough to play TE. But Gilbert is not on any playing field, and I doubt he will ever amount to anything. Such a shame!
Bech, on the other hand, is part of what is shaping up to be a phenomenal WR class at LSU. Deion Smith looks like a future superstar. Bech looks like an NFL level talent. BTJ has high first round potential. And Malik Nabors was being ballyhooed as the best of the bunch before he was injured.

Bech is not a head case and has a great attitude. That’s all you need to know really. Bech > Gilbert

A guy with toughness and competitive edge will rub off on his teammates. Make everyone better.
Love what I see with Bech.

One is a quitter and a crybaby, the other one is not.

One has mental issues while the other doesn’t

You know there’s a whole bunch of truth in that statement that goes well beyond just football, and translates to the work world as well.
One of the absolute biggest intangibles we look for when hiring besides people sills, work experience, job specific skill sets, etc, is attitude. It’s actually tops on the list for prospective employees, and there’s a very good reason for that, because attitude and work ethic can make or break team cohesiveness, and it can also cause someone to be better than another with more skills in a job simply because they work hard to achieve and are rewarded in the end for their hard work with getting better, and with a positive workable attitude, and simply put, everyone can get along and work with them.
Bad work ethics, shitty or negative attitudes, and quitting will take someone with all the potential in the world and make them a terrible hire. I have to imagine it’s the exact same in football too.

It does make you wonder. If Gilbert was still at LSU, Bech probably would still be a WR on the roster. At WR, who knows if the staff would be playing him ahead of the rest of the freshmen. He is really starting to hold his own blocking as a TE. And is a mismatch anywhere he lines up as a receiver.

Give me the player who actually wants to be on the field.....also Bech can ball. He's going to be huge for Max in check downs when the O line isn't giving him a ton of time

I think Bech is more comparable to Jarvis Landry than Gilbert. The fact that they wear the same # is more than a coincidence IMO.

Bech brings a lot of positives to the team. The TEAM.

That young man knows how to get open in the middle of the field and knows how to finish. Glad he wanted to be a tiger and now he is. To Jack Bech

Dont forget about Hilton too

This is so true, well said.

Simply put - Bech is a baller and a guy who plays for the team. Someone referenced a block he made 30 yds downfield. He's willing to run the short route to the open spot for a first down or to help his QB out. If he stays healthy, he'll make a lot of money someday.

Nah. Bech has a ton of talent. That’s not what separates them.

This is true though and what separates them on paper
