I once knew a female in the Army who basically looked Swedish who changed her personnel file to reflect that she was "hispanic" in the hopes of it helping her get promoted because one of her great grandparents was hispanic.

My wife's mom is from Chihuahua; 100% Hispanic/Latino/Mexican...whatever you want to call her. Makes my wife 50% of that. Her dad is a red headed Englishmen.
I'm Scottish/Irish. Means my kids are at least 25% latino/hispanic/mexican...whatever you want to call them.
My wife and kids look more white than I do lol, but they easily qualify as minorities. We never filled out their college stuff to take advantage of the fact that they could easily be lumped in as minorities. Never really occurred to us that box really meant anything. The kids speak Spanish and know all the cool Mexican covid cures (7up and vicks vapor rub being critical), but never really considered being 'minorities'.
We raised them as people that could identify other people that were assholes. There was no color of skin or race involved. You simply are an a-hole or not and you either work hard to get something or you don't. We never thought outside of that. We have mixed so many genetic lines, its mostly silly at this point to even identify with this shite.

I think the only place hispanics or latinos will stay liberal is California. From what I've seen here in Texas they work their asses off for the American dream. I love them!

I fall into that category to a T. My father is Native American / Spanish and my mother is a mix of Irish/Scottish. I'm almost exactly 25% Spanish and 25% Native American on my father's side and a mix of Irish and Scottish from my mother's. Typical Spanish last name.
Wife is born and raised in Germany. Both of the kids and myself look White with strong tans. The family dynamic that Ted Cruz' family has, is the same many of us have. Particularly those of us from out West
There are a ton of people like that in America and there will be even more in the future. Many minorities are considered such because of a 1 drop rule that makes little sense.
There are not definitive lines when it comes to race in America. It’s really more of a gradual blend from white to black and the current way people are classified doesn’t reflect that.

Hell, my dad was a fresh off the car tire raft Cuban. I've never once in my life considered myself to be anything other than white. Although here lately I sit back and ponder on whether I should claim "muh Cuban" heritage just so I can be exempt from the white male criticism.
