Eddie Vedder has pretty much been extremely open about hating their guts.
He is a massive liberal and tried to get them involved in actual charities and they declined and were just about the rock star lifestyle and didn't actually give a frick about any of the "causes".
Which I guess is sort of a good thing from my perspective

I still love that of all the preachy musical artists out there, Johnny Rotten was actually one of the few sane ones the whole time.

Edit: Saw them live at Voodoo Fest around ~2006-07, so the memory of Katrina was fresh. Great show. Played all the hits. But Zach gave this horrid speech that went something like: “The United States is at war in two places! In the deserts of Iraq and in the Lower Ninth Ward!”
You could hear a pin drop. I’m still amazed he didn’t get aggressively booed.
