I suppose I didn’t realize that hadn’t happened.

Do they need permission to declare a state of emergency?? Again, I have no idea .. but I'm more and more thankful everyday that my husband is a rice farmer and more and more grateful every day for those that do indeed work in O&G.

Boat listing 30 degree
I'm sure it depends on many things but how far can a boat like this list until it capsizes? And surely there are enough life boats on it for all crew, right??

Capitalism is truly evil. Plus climate change, amirite?

ERA flew their entire fleet of helicopters back to LC on Monday. I would think other helicopter companies nearby have done the same. Point being there are helicopters in the state to get to them.

Yes but to access the lifeboats, crew members would have to go out on deck. The captain mentioned that he & the crew members are afraid to go out on deck with all the equipment that was tossed & thrown around during the storm.

SOMEONE needs to start doing something ... and I have no ties to a soul on there but my God these companies making decisions suck.

Earlier Wednesday Craig Muirhead, spokesman for Noble, which is under contract with Shell, provided us with this statement:
“The Noble Globetrotter II drillship successfully secured its well in progress and departed the well location early on August 28 to take evasive action from Hurricane Ida’s storm path. These actions were based on real-time forecasts in the days leading up to the storm. It is standard industry practice for self-propelled vessels to take evasive action in advance of a hurricane.
"The vessel encountered hurricane-force conditions during this transit but maintained stability throughout the weather event. The vessel continues to operate on its own power with functional marine and safety systems. The Company is in the process of completing a full assessment of its condition. The vessel’s heli-deck is fully operational, and helicopter transportation will resume as charter service from hurricane-effected areas allows.
"The Company is proud of the performance of the vessel’s crew and can confirm that all personnel on board are safe and accounted for. We will continue to work closely with personnel and their families to provide all necessary support as we all recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Ida.”

The life boasts aren't out on deck. They are located along both sides of the living quarters. They are in no way isolated from the life boats.

A big crew boat could get them. Current wave height is 2.5 to 3.5 ft.

Reminds me of the stories you hear about how the coal companies treated the miners.

They obviously have power and supplies. Those rigs are nicer than many hotels. They aren't in any danger now.
Yeah, something doesn't add up here. The original story said they were 100 miles offshore. Now they are 40 miles? If things were really dire, they could put out a mayday and the Coast Guard would be there in no time.
I'm sure there is some damage and I'm sure they were/are all very scared. But this is what, 3 or 4 days after they were in the storm now? If it were truly dire, I'm sure they would have made a call to someone other than their company managers. It's a shitty situation, but there's a disconnect somewhere in the info we have.

Is a heli-deck fully operational with a 30degree list?

May? Don’t go out on a limb there!
Noble, and Shell are going to be writing big checks. It must have been a terrifying experience, but those baws are going to be rich.

To be fair, that's pretty much any large corporation. Not just oil companies.

Baw, do you need to rewatch the marine debris video?

I know nothing about this sort of thing, but that video was scary. If I had a loved one there, I'd be worried sick.

Sounds like someone isn’t being truthful.
