Living in New Orleans and maybe Louisiana in general is a hard way of life.

51 born and raised here. I imagine living elsewhere besides Chicago and New York maybe is a hell of alot better. I love New Orleans, this is my home and never gave any thought of living anywhere else. As I get older, this way of life is beating me down. State politics, yearly hurricanes and evacuations, infrastructure and crime…its just not good all the way around. Am I correct on this? Why would anyone want to raise a family here?

Yes. And we’re all idiots.

Lester earl tells me it’s a paradise. No crime, very nice busy people everywhere. Hmm

I don’t live in New Orleans and am going to push my kid to move out of state

Texas and Florida are your best options and they both still have hurricanes. Could move West of Austin / Northwest of SA and be far from the coast. Still floods here frequently though. On second thought maybe try Iowa

100%. I left the whole damn sorry state 2 years ago and have been happy with that decision every single day.

Did Boo Krewe survive or did Ida blow him to his utopia of Miami?

Very rarely do I meet someone who has moved out of LA and moved back.
Very few of us, however, tend to leave.
My entire family, on both sides, is from Tangipahoa Parish. They are never leaving.
I moved all across the country after college and settled in Gulf Shores. I am much better off for that decision.

46 and drunk here. I agree. WTF are we doing?
Then I remembered we have a fricking party here for the LSU UCLA game on Saturday and we don't even have power yet.
We're special.

You kinda have to live near a population center nowadays to make a living.
I left after Katrina and don’t regret it. My family is in gulf shores now. Their rental is up Saturday and they are waiting to hear what entergy has to say. All 3 of their houses are relatively ok. But they’ll have to deal with cleaning up all that shite, the roofing, the freezers…. All that shite.
You do t have all of the good stuff elsewhere that Louisiana has. Everywhere near a population has a lot of the bad stuff Louisiana has.
But the bad hurricanes really beat you down. And most places do t have that.

If all of my family and friends weren’t here I’d get the frick out of the state in a heartbeat. I value family and friends more than competent elected officials and good infrastructure though

No disagreement here. However, it gets hot or cold in a big city for 3 days and dozens of people die. We just had a 50’mile wide tornado track 100 miles across the state and you can count the dead on one hand. We are tough idiots.

Sadly this is true.
We get fricked all through life bc of this state so we learn to make the most of it by being raging alcoholics and party animals.

I did this. I don't recommend it. Once youve been other places, coming back here and seeing how some of you people live and are is pathetic.
The entire local and state government apparatus and structure needs to be burnt to the ground. LA needs to use Virginia as a model and adopt the position of a Commonwealth

I’ve said this for years but after having to replace my roof in twice in less than a year, I’m about done. I can work anywhere in the country but I chose to remain in this shite hole. I need to start looking for alternatives. I’m pretty done with this shite.

I was going to post something in a similar vein. I’m from suburban northern Virginia but have lived here 10 years. There’s good that comes from facing challenges and picking yourself up. It keeps you grounded and gives you perspective and teaches you to find the best in things to an extent. A lot of other places have people with their head so far up their arse that if something went wrong they’d be totally screwed trying to think critically how to get themselves out of it. If an event like this hit my hometown the devestation would be untold simply because people wouldn’t be able to cope with the slightest inconvenience.
