Great guy. Played basketball at Mississippi State in the 60s. Went into the Army but fortunately didn’t have to go to NAM. Went to West Texas to become a rancher. Still has a flip phone he doesn’t know how to operate.

He’s a life of the party always hooting’ and hollerin’. Just likes to cut up a bit and does a great job with my kids and my wife’s brother’s kids of being involved with them and going to their events. Takes the boys to the ranch and has them do manual labor when we’re in town.

My only complaint is that my BiL, who I like, is a bit of an a-hole and functioning alcoholic. He lets him be an a-hole to his mom, his wife, and sister (my wife) pretty regularly. He’ll comment about how he acts arrogant and is obviously drinking a bunch behind their backs (they’re hardcore Baptist) but won’t say anything.

Outside of that, great dude, glad to have him as a FiL.

I was fortunate with my FiL. He was an extremely intelligent, laid back, interesting guy. He had been a large animal vet and when we went up to see them, he and I would go for a ride in the country most every day. We spent a lot of time riding dirt roads and just talking about whatever. He's gone now, and I miss him.

Came here to say this.

My mother-in-law was a fricking saint. I miss her.

I love my FIL. He’s a great dude who is willing to help with anything I need. He’s not intrusive in our lives. Doesn’t hurt he likes to drink and we align politically.
Pretty much this.

Mine is a know it all arse. So am I so there is always tension between us, but we’re always cordial to each other for everyone’s sake.

Good thing is that my wife also knows he’s an arse so she always takes my side.

My FIL is great. One of the most chill people I know.

He also helped pay for my kid and is obsessed with my chihuahua. He is like his second grandchild.

Mine is great. He’s a retired fighter pilot. Been retired since before I met him almost 40 years ago. Always active, still plays golf three times a week. Until just recently, he walked the round. We visit him at least every year for his birthday, but usually more. This past one was his 93rd. I take my arse kicking on the course (he shoots well below his age) and cherish every minute of it. He’s also a wonderful grandfather to my son. I couldn’t ask for better.

I really don't want to hear that she gave him a blow job the night before, or that he's almost out of viagra. The really uncomfortable part is my mother in law likes talking about sex if she's had a couple of drinks. Luckily she doesn't drink very often.

Damn. If she wouldn’t talk about it you could probably get her to blow you.

Been divorced a little over 4 years and rarely see my ex-FIL unless I go by their house to get/drop off kids or something.

He's always EXTREMELY cordial and even welcoming. Typically asks how I'm doing.

Can't say nearly the same about my ex-MIL. She's easily manipulated by my ex.

When I was married, I actually had a great relationship with my in-laws. They reallywere like an extra set of parents. It was my parents (especially my mother) who were always starting crap. I really missed my in-laws after the divorce. My ex-wife, not so much.

VERY similar to my situation when I was married. Definitely don't miss the ex either and she has poisoned my relationship with my ex-MIL.

My FiL is an awesome guy, even though he is a procrastinator of unmatched proportions. He will do anything in the world for you… at the last fricking second

He’s dead. So the relationship is a little cold.

I have a great relationship with my FIL. He has heart of gold but is 80. He's in great health and totally independent.
But I worry about him.

Before he died, I was pretty sure he’d have happily strangled me if he could have gotten away with it.

Since he was strong as an ox I made sure I was never alone with him.
