What is your relationship like with your father in law?

I got married in my early 20's and it only lasted 9 months and my father in law could not stand me. Was rocky from the get go. Both 100% my fault. Ran into him the other day grocery shopping for the first time in years and was shocked at how happy he was to see me. Told me he heard I had gotten sober and wished it would have all worked out those years ago. Just sitting here thinking about what could have been.

Couldn’t be any better. We manage a hedge fund together.

I have a great relationship with my FIL. He comes over all the time just to talk and have a cup of coffee. He is 87 y/o and fit as a fiddle. My dad passed away 10 years ago and my FIL has become my father figure. He can be a horse's arse but I sure love that guy.

When I was just dating his daughter he really didn't care for me and made it clear multiple times. Main reason was they are super Baptist and I didn't go to church...would make shitty comment toward me and at one point told her with me right there she needed to find someone more like her.
When I asked her to marry me he did a total 180.....LOVED me and our relationship has been really good ever since. Even gave a really heartwarming speech at our wedding how happy he was when I talked to him about marrying her....thing is I never did..cause he was an arse. Ah well...all good now

My FIL is 85 and can still drive. His hearing isn't great, and he has trouble with his phone all the time, but he's always been good to me.
We don't hear from him much, usually just a call once a week.

It’s fine. I talk when I see him and that’s about it. He’s very quiet and reserved and I have his phone number but don’t think ive ever called him…..and he’s never called me

My father in law was a quiet guy but a bit of a drinker. He was legally blind when he passed and I was at his bedside. Can’t say we were particularly close since we lived in different cities, but he wasn’t a bad guy.

Mine was like a second father to me. I truly missed him when he passed away.

When I was married, I actually had a great relationship with my in-laws. They reallywere like an extra set of parents. It was my parents (especially my mother) who were always starting crap. I really missed my in-laws after the divorce. My ex-wife, not so much.

We're pretty cool. We live in different states so don't see him but 1-2x a year. We do have different primary interests but we both enjoy a good bourbon so no issues

He is a great man and we get along really well.
He suffered a serious stroke two days ago.
I don't really know what to say past that.

My FIL is a good dude but has some quirky ways. He cooks lunch everyday for my son and niece between classes, never misses any event we have. Cooks lunch every Sunday for the family.
I lost my dad in 2010 and he pretty much took his place.

My FIL was a great man that I respected deeply. He has passed a few years ago.
He was drafted into Vietnam and thou he didnt talk much about it till the end, he saw some shite. He was a quiet man but didn't need to say much to earn respect.
He was was a salt of the earth small town La guy that was very welcoming to me and he was a great grandpa. He never had much, but he gave all he had to his family or anybody that needed a hand. Literally a shirt off his back type if somebody needed it. I'm told He never was religious after Nam, but he made peace with God at the end of his life.
Man, just writing this reminds me so much how I miss him.
